Renting is a necessary evil. We rent because we travel quite a bit and DH has lived all over the US, so we aren't sure where we want to settle in a few years when it comes time for children. When we figure that out we will buy.

we are renting cus we dont really have a choice. I can't see how we could ever have a down payment for a home on LI and be able to afford the taxes. I think we ill probably ahve to move out of state if we want to buy something and raise a family.

we're renting right now... it just works for us! we're able to save a good amount of money.
we've got enough in the bank for a down payment, but we are planning on renewing our lease soon for one more year so we can save some more money and be REALLY ready to buy a home
plus, we're not sure where we'll be living after next year. we're not ready to settle down in CA
Same here, except we are in Albany. I think we might wind up staying here, but until that is final there will be no house buying.

we own here in NY but we're leaving the state (it's just too expensive) and we'll be renting in PA until we are sure where we want to be.. plus with me going out on maternity leave next year a rental is nice and cheap for dh to manage on his own without us eating hotdogs for dinner every night for a year..

We're still trying to get our finances together so renting is our only option for right now. If we could buy a house, I would in a heartbeat. But like a PP said, it is a lot of money, work and responsibility. My Dad is about to put his up for sale because he's sick of having to maintain it and pay all of the bills. Renting is good for us right now, especially because we have amazing landlords and DH has to stay within the boundaries of his fire department. I'm stuck in this town for at least 12 more years till he's out of office.

Thank girls. DH and I have money for the downpayment plus some. We can save so much money just by renting. I have to be honest...im scared to death of owning a home. I love our lifestyle right now...vacations, going out, buying what we want....and we save!! If we own a house the only thing we will be doing is working for our house. I honestly have thought a bout it...and to me...and house is not worth giving up our current lifestyle. We have decided to rent until we can buy a house in full....it may not be on Long Island...who knows. But we love renting...I dont think there is anything wrong with it. I know some think im crazy. But if you think about it....after years of interest on the loan and property taxes here on LI...Its crazy!!! Renting also gives us the ability to move at anytime.
