Ugh
I have been feeling SO down in the dumps lately...school is absolutely kicking my butt...my internship is the worst experience ever and going there makes me totally miserable. Its so bad that DH and I decided I should take a break from school and reevaluate if this is even something I want to do. I'm making everyone in my house just as miserable as I am.I don't know what I'm looking for...I guess just send me some good vibes to get through the next couple of weeks??

Re: Ugh
ugh, grad school can be miserable! even if you like your program, it's still a rough, hard time. people usually don't understand why grad school is so tough unless they've been there
. i remember once talking to my mom on the phone and saying how tired i was, and she told me to take a nap. i wanted to burst into tears because i had no time to sleep! i'm not saying it's the worst experience ever, it's just hard, and i totally understand where you're coming from!

THIS so much is one of the biggest issues...people don't really understand what kind of pressure I'm under. They know I do a lot (wife, mother, student) but they can't possibly fathom the sheer amount of work that grad school involves...and then when you have everyone from students who are ahead of you to your PROFESSORS telling you 'Oh, you think this is bad? Just wait it only gets worse from here!' I can't imagine it getting any worse, I'm at my wits end as it is.

Re: Ugh
Sending hugs!! It will get better! Maybe you can take a weekend off and just relax with DH, go out to dinner, etc? Or have a spa da. Do something for yourself- you deserve a 'me' day!

Re: Ugh
We talked last night so you know my feelings.Finish the semester as strong as you can just in case you do decide you want to finish school out --
but I think its good you take a break. The year has been crazy with wedding planning and with the beastchild living with you and you're woofer MIL.
Enjoy the spring

Honestly, it really DOES get better. You don't bring your work home with you once you are out of grad school! I don't remember what program you are in, but once you graduate and get the groove of a job, it feels like a huge relief!

Re: Ugh
My first semester in graduate school was the most difficult time of my life. I wasn't married and I don't have kids, but I had moved away from my family and DH who I was dating at the time, so the homesickness and missing everyone I loved was a big stress. For the first time in my life, I thought of dropping out, and quitting, but I continued, mainly out of spite for myself. The work is overwhelming at first, and there is culture shock. Grad school is not college, and it's not like working at a job. You need some time to get used to it, and anyone who has been through it will understand.
An older student saw how distressed I was and took me aside. She put her arm around my shoulder and said 'Listen to me. You will get through this. Just keep repeating to yourself: It will get done. It will get done.'
And then, after two years, It was done! At graduation, the feeling of 'I DID IT.' was so overwhelmingly joyful. My path was so difficult, and I didn't quit.
You might need a break. You might need to only go part time. But if this degree is something you want, If you are studying something you are passionate about, just tell yourself, 'It will get done. It will get done.'

Re: Ugh
What are you going to grad school for?I 100% understand (aside from the parent thing which is a full time job on it's own) the amount of stress you must be feeling.
How much more schooling and internsthip do you have? The one thing that pushed me is realizing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
As for taking a break, like someone else said, I wouldn't do it. The winter break is coming up so hopefully during that time you can reevaluate the field your going into.

Sometimes you need to step back and assess things.

Re: Ugh
I went through something similar over the summer...not exactly the same, but I see echos of it. I took a break from school starting in July, and I couldn't be happier. I'll be going back at the end of January revived and ready to go.

Re: Ugh
Ugh grad school was def tough... A LOT of work and I dont know what program you're in, but I remember feeling like it basically ran my life! I can't imagine going through all the stress in combination with being a mother and wife! I just want to say that I def commend you working your butt off while also being a mom!!!! I dont know if I couldve juggled all of that myself!I'm sorry you're going through a rough time. But do what you feel is the best for you, your family and your future. I know people who have taken breaks and they came back a semester or so later and it worked out for them but everyone is different. Do you think if you took a break you would def go back? Do you feel like this program is even worth it to endure or go back to if you do decide to take a break? It's a really hard decision that will take a lot of thought. I wish you all the best and hope it all works out!!!
