UPDATE A sad long, anonymous thread. Don't know what to do....
Original post by sadbride08
I am posting this anonymously because I am obviously distraught.
Last night DH & I had a terrible fight. It started over money, as most fights do. But it escalated. And as it often does, it got ugly....
I was yelling at him & telling him to get out. This is not the first time I have asked him repeatedly to leave. I was shouting at him to “get out”, “leave”, “I don’t want you to live here anymore.” He shoved me. I shoved him back. He shoved me again & we fell onto the bed. He was lying on top of me & holding my hands down. So I bit him his arm. Hard. REALLY hard. I had to get him off me.
He got up, looked at the bite mark, grabbed his coat & started saying how he was going to have me arrested. He said that I shouldn’t plan on going to work today because I would be in jail. Then he stormed out.
I sat for a few minutes wondering what to do. So I called the police station & said “my husband is on his way down there. He is going to tell you that I bit him & to arrest me. I did bite him, but it was only because he was on top of me. What should I do?”
They took my name & address, asked me what happened. I told them. They sent 2 officers to my house. They took a statement. They asked if I wanted to press charges. I said no. They asked if I wanted him out for the night. I said no, that he was allowed to come home.
Then DH called. He said he had calmed down. He asked of he could come home & I said yes.
Then the police called & said after talking to their sergeant & reviewing the case, that they had to arrest him. They said “call us when he comes home & we’ll come pick him up. “ I asked them to please not do that because he calmed down & I told him he could come home. I said “I told him it was ok to come back here & now you’re going to arrest him? That makes me look horrible. He’ll think I trapped him.” They said “ok, well then just have him come here & give us his side of the story. We just want to talk to him.” Ok sounds good.
They asked for his cell #. I gave it. He calls 30 seconds later & says “did you call the police?” I said yes. He said “they want me to come down there. Are they going to arrest me?” I said “no they just want to talk to you.”
Well, I don’t know what the hell he said but the arrested him. Then I get a call from a family friend saying that not only did they arrest him, but that he cannot come near me or the house until after his court date on Jan 30th. They also gave a “no contact order” so he cannot call me, email, text me or contact me in anyway.
I am devastated. We fight SO BAD but I feel awful about this. His own mother said to me this morning that this is the wake up call he needs.
We fight a lot. There is screaming often. He can be REALLY nice for a week or two but then he becomes an a$$hole again. He calls me a fat f#ck (I’m a size 4), he says I can’t cook, he says “you f#ck up everything”. He verbally very abusive.
I have BEGGED him to come with me to counseling. I am on prozac now because I am so unhappy. I have been seeing someone (therapist) . He REFUSES and says that prozac & therapy are for “weak people”.
He has nowhere to go. His mother let him stay with her last night but she threw him out this morning. She says the whole family is on my side. But a part of me feels SO BAD for him. He must be hurting. I wanted to cover my a$$ so I didn’t get arrested but I didn’t want him out on his a$$ for a week & homeless. I want to talk to him & I can’t & it’s killing me.
His mother said that when we go to court on the 30th that I should tell the judge that I want us to go to counseling and maybe he’ll MAKE DH go with me….
I am hoping that this wakes him up but I am scared that it may end in divorce. I don’t really know what to do. Right now I just needed some support. I am at work & hiding my tears. I don’t want anyone here to know. I am afraid to tell my family. And I am embarrassed that we might not be able to get through this.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I just got off the phone with the assistant to a great domestic relationship attorney. Waiting for him to call me back before I make any decisions.
Sounds like a good first step. Take care of yourself and take the time that you need to work this all through. I'll keep you in my prayers.

As an attorney, I have to give you the advice that would keep you safe. First of all, don't drop the order at this time. You need something in your hand to protect you just in case. And you can do a no physical contact if you feel unsafe and allow him to be escorted by a sheriff.
Although I know nothing about your situation, you really want to be careful and not coerced into this. Maybe if you want, just drop the no contact and make it a stay away with contact. And then see what he does. It is better to know now if he is willing to work with you.
And btw-you can stip to marital counseling but a judge cannot order it. They can however order anger management or domestic violence courses. I think it sounds like these are needed too so that he learns to better channel his anger.

I fight too with my DH.
I'm a real spitfire & have a serious temper. I've thrown things at him, hit him, ect. He's grabbed my arms, but thats IT.
HOWEVER, Never, can I imagine either one of us resorting to biting one another. You must have been really pushed to the edge. The police part of the story sounds incomplete. I read it a few times. It sounds like you want out.
Get out. Get out now. Things get worse. This is a lifetime...and your life. I don't think he wants to change. I don't think people really can.

The most important thing right now is to protect your immediate safety. Before you make a decision about the fax or anything else, you should call the hotline or a lawyer for guidance. Your safety comes first.
There is lots of time for counseling, talking and thinking things through. The questions and answers about your marriage, why this has started and what is best for you will take time. However, your safety comes first and that is the immediate priority.
I agree. You should contact an attorney ASAP. Especially since he has one already. This has to be about your safety now and immediately. The rest can come later.
FM if you need anything.

Sorry,I'm not compassionate to men who choose to control women in that matter. Been there, done that. Sounds like he has a few screws loose somewhere. What a vile piece of crap. In any event, don't be weak and give in. Good luck!!! Life goes after....whatever your husbands name is!!!

no, he was never like this until just before the wedding. I thought it was cold feet.
We've had a few months where he was really trying. He stopped going out 4 nights a week & blowing $$$ (he's irresponsible with $). He WAS trying. But he just kind of reverted back. We were doing so well. I thought I had my old DH back.
We never have sex. Like EVER. We never even kiss. Its like we're just roommates, that is, when we're not fighting. But when we fight, its ugly. He pushes my buttons so hard that sometimes I just explode.

If this were my marriage I would walk away.....You don't deserve this and I really don't see it getting any better. Maybe you should cut your losses. The only thing that I believe you should divorce over is physical abuse, and that's what your in an abusive relationship. There is no shame in walking away. MArriage is hard, but it should NEVER leave bruises. JMHO

Re: UPDATE A sad long, anonymous thread. Don't know what to do....
you shouldnt be like roomates, its your first year of marriage, your a newlywed.... let all those reasons sink in and remember the basics of why you wanted to marry him...
you two are going through a real tough time.... sex is supposed to emotionally bring the husband and wife closer too... and lack of it..will obviously get either one of you frustrated too
the first year of marriage is the hardest, i never lived with my DH before i got married, so yes im adjusting a lot, but adjusting with respect and learning to pick and choose my battles....
any updates?? good luckk

Re: UPDATE A sad long, anonymous thread. Don't know what to do....
Update:
Good news: I got myself a top notch attorney. Met with him this morning.
MIL came over last night BEGGING me to go to court & drop the no contact order. It was really awkward. She also said she was relaying a message from DH for me not to hire an attorney b/c 'we can't afford it.' Tough sh!t.
So against my better judgment I went to the courthouse this morning to speak to someone about dropping it & they said that they won't even consider it until after he has been arraigned, which is Jan 30th. So at least I look like I tried.
DH is apparently all jerked off. Oh well. He can sit & stew for a few more days. His mother is all pissed off & thinks 'this is all so ridiculous.' She just wants it all to go away. Yesterday she was totally on my side, now she just wants the easy way out. I'm disheartened. But at least I know I don't have an ally in her as I had thought.

DO NOT give in! The law is trying to protect you and rightly so, so let them. Honestly your husband is a big boy and should know better. let him stew. Maybe it will teach him to make better choices.
Unfortunately, do not count on your MIL- No matter how much she loves you. he is HER son and she will always be on his side. Its sad but true and would be the same of your family.
Definelty need to set some boundaries when eh comes out. I know Mich mentioned anger management classes and i think thats definetly something he should so, because there is NO RAESOn for him to lash out to the point that you would panic and feel the need to physically fight back for your protection.
Keep us posted.

so sad. I have little to say but
the marriage counselor is a good first step but he needs to go for a WHILE. Does he realize this isn't just one appointment? That this is a process?
Good luck to you.

Re: UPDATE A sad long, anonymous thread. Don't know what to do....
OH ALSO
I had made an appointment at a marriage counselor for us tonight @ 6pm, anticipating that he was going to be allowed near me. My attorney is going to call the police dept and let them know that we are going tonight and to allow him to go. We have to go in separate cars & leave in separate cars, etc...
My attorney said I can get a feel for if I want the no contact order lifted by the way he behaves tonight. He said if he's a d!ck, then at his arraignment next week I can either ask them to life it or I can ask them to keep it in place.

It is good that you are at least taking some step to require him to change and to put the problems on the table. Just keep in mind, that a couple of days of being nice to you while he has something to gain (upcoming arraignment) may not be the best indicator of how he will treat you in the future! No one deserves to be treated the way you describe! Also, if it is 'against your better judgment' (as you noted above) to have the order lifted, then you should follow your gut. You are the only one who truly knows the situation, not your MIL, certainly not us, etc... Whatever you choose to do, I hope it works out for you and you find peace and happiness whether with this man or without.
