Do you really want the job? Are you qualified for it? If so, its worth the $200. But if a long shot or a job you may not want anyway, I would pass.
Just my opinion.

Erica, this could be the job of a lifetime, a day diff is not going to change the trip, you still get to go. I say go for the interview. I hope you get it, then it will be so worth it if you get it and you changed your trip.

If you really, really want this job AND you know that you are qualified for it I would change my ticket.

Re: I could cry right now
Is the family emergency something that is time sensitive or could you be dealyed an additional day?
I this is a job you truly want and think yoiu can get I say go for it!!
I have a masters in it...but I don't have much experience...so I don't know if I am qualified...then there is the whole thing that I am not CA certified yet...so I could be passed up for that...
I forgot to ask the woman for her number...so I don't even know if I could call back...she said she would check for me for another date...but said it was unlikely
the important part is that DH gets to Spain...I could get there late...but now should I look for the number? I tried *69 and no luck...but I could figure it out with some effort

Re: I could cry right now
thats a tough one. Its a really long flight fron San Diego to Spain, and even longer when you're alone.
What's the job like? Its it something you really want? and that you have a good chance at getting?
I'd be somewhat cautious about a company that's not willing to be at all flexible with your schedule. Do you know how many people they're interviewing?
Its a school district...so they probably get the principal and parents together...and they want to do it in one day...
Its a job I would want - guidance counselor...but I don't think I am a shoe in as it is not a teaching job...what I have done for the last 7 years

ah, that makes sense. But given that you're not a shoe in, I'd save the $200 and fly together.

You may want to try to make the interview. They probably won't interview on another day b/c they won't be ablet to get the panel together. Also, consider what the teaching job market is there...is it as competitive as it is on LI? Realize things like this can happen for a reason. If you don't get to interview for this one, then maybe there will be something else in the future. Good luck in your decision. I've had this happen to me just a couple weeks ago (though not involving international emergency travel) and it felt horrible. I couldn't make the interview and tried to get one later but was denied. They were moving fast to get someone into the position b/c it's the end of the year and they can't gather everyone for the interview panel multiple times.
well I think I missed my chance... I called the district office to tell them I would change it...but they said they weren't doing the hiring the HS was...so I called over there...and there was no answer...I left a message...but now I'll just wait...
I haven't interviewed for a job in over 3 years...so it would have been nice to at least have this one to practice...
my stomach is just in a knot right now...if they call back I will change...if they don't...I'll be off to Spain this weekend

Re: I could cry right now
Wow, sorry to hear. Personally I would accompany DH to Spain, for support if anything, especially if it's a family emergency, and that you're not a shoe-in for the job.
Either way, if they call you, just figure out how much you want the opportunity before you say yes. Good Luck either way
liz...thanks...that helps ease the knots...since I can't get a hold of anyone...
I just keep saying to myself...its nice to be chosen for the interview...that means something right?

Re: I could cry right now
ugh - that WOULD be perfect! Are you still waiting for them to get back to you? I'm confused
I called and the receptionist gave me a number...I left a message...but I don't think with the right person...
its almost the end of their day...so I really don't think I am going to hear back...plus they probably tossed my resume after I told them I couldn't make it
