UPDATE : When you/DH are sick...

Original post by carolinebr

Is anyone else married to a man who is a TOTAL baby when he is sick but when YOU are sick, he tells you to suck it up? Or did I just marry a total d!ck?

I am ready to STRANGLE him. Honestly, if he has the sniffles, he is in bed for days & calls the world & tells them how sick he is. But I went to the ER this weekend with a ruptured ovarian cyst, was kept overnight for observation & told to rest in bed for 1-3 days. After 1/2 a day, DH was telling me to 'get up & go to work'. I am so upset. He totally minimalized what happened to me. He went so far as to actually say to me last night 'nothing is wrong with you, get up.' I am so upset over this.

He even said at the hospital 'you know, I don't feel well either.' Really d!ckhead? How come I'M THE ONE ON THE GURNEY! He always needs to be the center of attention. Its really upsetting.

UPDATE

He just called & said “I just wanted to say that I’m sorry for the way I’ve been treating you and that I’m going to work on it.”

He must have been sweating.

I told him “I hope you’re serious because right now it is very difficult for me to stay with you.” I told him I got the names of some marriage counselors (which I did) and that I think we should go. He said “we don’t need that. I don’t need someone to tell me I’m a d!ck. I already know I haven’t been treating you right.”

I said “well maybe you should go talk to someone anyway about your father’s death because you have been very upset. Maybe talking to an outsider will help”

He said we’ll talk about it tonight.

Thanks to all of you for your support. Now I just need to get his *** to counseling.

I'm so glad he noticed that he wasn't being a very good husband, it sounds like things are moving in the right direction

I'm so glad that he apologized for his behavior. I know it doesn't fix things but at least he sees how heinous he's been treating you!! Kudos to you for sticking up for yourself and for letting him know that you will not stand for an unsupportive husband!! Counseling really works wonders. I hope you can help him to see that so he decides to go... Best of luck to you sweetie!!

That's great that he realizes how he is being towards you. I am happy to hear that he stepped up to the plate and apologized. I think marriage counseling is a good idea or even counseling for him with his dad's death. Talking to a therapist really does work.

Once again, I am happy he apologized. You didn't deserve to be treated like that.

sorry you have to deal with such insensitivity!!! i have FREQUENT ovarian cyst ruptures and OMG the PAIN is unbelievable!!! i usually collapse and pass out---he has no idea how much that hurts!

at least he acknowledged his douchebag behavior--i hope he works on it!

So glad to hear that he is aware of his actions, that is a VERY good thing. Hopefully he will talk to someone and work everything out. Grieving is a process, he will work thru it

I am glad he came to his senses. Maybe grief counseling can work along side marriage. Keep us posted. You will work it out.

im really glad to hear DH has recognized and acknowledged hes hasnt been very understanding with you. it sounds like youre feeling a bit better about things. prayers for you guys! GL in ironing some of this out together with DH.

ETA: it also sounds like youre both dealing with some difficulties and its impt for you both to acknowledge eachothers pain, even if it is a diff kind of pain. when one of you is dealing with something, the other might feel like...'hey, dont forget about me' (and vice versa). and it can become a 'one-up' situation...like 'what Im going through is more than what youre going through!' type thing. sounds like you guys just really need eachother right now Give eachother lotsa love!!! Ill finish this by saying, of course I dont claim to know the whole situation or what you guys 'need.' Just my 2 cents based on what i read.

OMG  I had one rupture a few years ago I know how painful that is!!!

DH can be that way too sometimes, he's horrible when he feels at all sick, (with his allergies is all year) and usually gives me the same nasty attitude that yours did.

I'm glad to hear that he apologized though and I hope your feeling better!!
