Vacation before kids!

Sooo I'd like to take a couple of nice trips before we have children and am trying to save and plan ahead. We actually have a wishlist of 10 places we'd like to go in our lifetime...I'd like to get to at least two of them before we have kids! What about you girls? Any plans or are you jumping right into TTC?

Hawaii is top of my list! I am wondering if any of you stayed at Hiltons when you went?

Ok so I am really jumping the gun on this one but I'd love to go for my and DH's 30th bday (15 months away) so am saving up Hilton and Amex points as much as possible!!!! I told DH we have to go before we have kids....

no Hawaii = no kids....LOL

Or I wonder if we should try for Europe. I have been all over Europe and DH has been to a few places but we'd like to go to Italy. But DH doesnt want to due to the exchange rate. Booo

Here is our top 10 list:

Italy
Switzerland (to snowboard...DH's pick)
Hawaii
Bora Bora
Australia & Fiji
Alaska
Machu Picchu (& possibly Brazil)
Costa Rica

Hmm cant think of the rest but I'd also love to visit Seattle, San Fran and San Diego!

I feel the exact same way but i havent really compiled a list. I just know that i want to take at least 2 more trips before kids. One of them definitely to europe and im not sure about the other one. The only problem is its so much money!!!!!

I wanted to go to Hawaii on our huggymoon but it was just too expensive. When we get to do it we want to do it the right way and not half @ss it. We planned to go before children but now that we are starting to buy a house money is tight...

Ah yes...I pushed for Hawaii to for the honeymoon but we didnt have enough time or $$$. The wedding was just too pricey!

I think we have similar picks! Too funny! I've been to Greece....love it and want to go back there too. The islands are so pretty!

My boss promised me i am going to Rome with her next spring, so hopefully that pans out.

I didn't even think about switzerland... that is a good choice. DH and I love to board.

based on your list... sorry if this is long!

DH & I went skiing last Feb in Zermatt, Switzerland - the Matterhorn..If you both love to ski/snowboard, definitely go..The hotel we stayed at was reasonably priced... We brought our own skis which saved $$ and it wasnt too expensive or cold.. The earlier in the season you go the cheaper it is and the exchange rate is not bad since its swiss francs and not euros...And you can ski to italy from there since that is where the border between the 2 countries is.. the skiing was unbelievable.. and the apres ski was fun... We stayed for 8 days..

I'm biased to italy.. definitely worth going.. a lot to see so I would take a tour to make sure you hit all the spots...

Australia is another one of my favorite places.. Sydney is a prettier version of NYC ..lol.. and the coast, the great barrier reef and everything else there is beautiful...You can hop over to NZ and Fiji too.. The only hting about this trip is you need at least two full weeks to get a good feel.. i was there for almost a month and didnt get to see everything..

These are the 3 off your list that I'd recommend going to...

I've been 5 times (4 times with him). It's really cool, but I'd never do it again. I don't want to become certified to do it on my own so i don't see the point of doing it anymore.

I highly recommend it, though! It's like no other experience in the world.

Boo to the exchange rate..

and honestly Jenn take it from someone who has used points already - DON'T DO IT ON HOTELS!!! It eats up like triple the points. Save it for airfare but you will have to book it about 1 yr to 9 mo ahead to not use double or triple.

Amex points are good for purchases - like 'things'. I know a pain in the @ss!

This is what DH and I do also! We did Italy for our honeymoon - amazing! We also took a 3 week cross-county road trip last summer. We saw so many amazing places. We'd love to go back to Italy, see Amsterdam, Spain, Greece. DH has played at music conservatories in England but I've never been, so that's another on our list.

Our friends went on an around-the-world honeymoon and have been gone for nearly three years. They decided to settle down in Vietnam and may be moving to Prague next!

I feel the same way, I want to go on a few nice trips before we have kids. We went to Italy for our HM - it's amazing! I would love to see more of Europe before we have kids, but I'm just not sure if we'll have the money. Instead we may go on a cruise (hopefully next year) and see Puerto Rico & a bunch of Carribean islands... I figure I'd rather enjoy the beachy places before I have kids because who knows what my body will look like after that...maybe we'll save Europe for later in life.

There are a lot of other places we wanna see over our lifetime including:
-New Orleans
-Chicago
-California
-Arizona/The Grand Canyon
-Ireland
-Greece
-Paris
-London
-Japan

While Italy is breathtaking, if Hawaii is at the top of your list I think you should try that first because you'll get wrecked on the exhange rate in Europe. Personally, it may be better to do the beachy places like Hawaii while you're young, and since Italy/Europe is a lot of museums/ruins, may be better when you're older. Just my two cents.

trust me that i would love to and wouldn't take any convincing haha. Now to figure out when we'd go and also to save money lol. We talked about doing Italy soon, we might do this with his family bc dh wants to go with his dad for his first time in italy and go to calabria where his dad came from and see his families old house and all that. He wants to experience that with his dad which i understand plus his aunt has a house somewhere on the water and just bought a home now in Rome so we wouldn't even have to pay for hotel so it would be great, she always says we can stay at one of her homes. So we're trying to do this one soon. Oh and we've also talked about a cruise to Alaska.

I am trying to think of some place for summer of 09 but not sure. Dh said some of his friends might go to Aruba so if a big group goes then we'll just do that but otherwise i'd rather plan a vacation for just us two elsewhere.

Oh and dh wants to go to the world cup in south africa. I would LOOOOVE to and i have always dreamed of going to a world cup but yeah this one would not be a cheap one so we'll have to see about that otherwise that would be amazing.

We have a huge list of places we want to go.

We can cross Tahiti and Bora Bora off the list, thanks to our honeymoon.
