Re: Vacation before kids!
While you are still without kids: Really look into the places you want to go to. We were able to do LOTS of places on a limited budget...when the exchange rate was worse.
Europe: We went on a CRUISE that had ports in primarily Italy: Rome, Florence, Almafi coast. We also went to Monaco & malta and departed form Barcelona. We got the cruise on almost last-minute sale in a slightly off-season. A nice on-board credit covered extra expenses on the ship and part of our excursions. If you do your homework & have no kids to tot around with you, you can take public transportation off the ship to your points of interest that you have done the research on & cruising is the way to go. The flight to Europe was our biggest cost....since it was almost last minute & we hate connecting flights.
Ireland: What a place to visit! It involves a whole lot of walking & is actually kid-friendly. Again, we went SLIGHTLY off peak season (November) & stayed at a brand new Hilton (promotional rate that included dinner), a castle (this was pricey), and a posh hotel (they were hosting an event at the time, so they slashed rates and envited us to a fashion show...their rates were at times 2000Eu). We were lucky & had great weather. Need a jacket.
Costa Rica: went through an online travel agent beacsue I didn't know the area well & you need lots of taxi transportation between the cities. It was not that pricey & a great place.
We will do Hawaii someday...the plane ride is just too long for now.
I love to travel, have fun!
