I'd like to get your opinions...FH and I decided we were not going to have one but now we are contemplating having it. I am wondering what's the consensus out there. We felt that it was an hour less to party and our place provide a Touch of Vienna(we paid extra for this as well) in which they bring cookies, pastries, and cakes to the guests' tables besides the wedding cake. We still not sure though.... We have been to many weddings and those that have it, it's great and it becomes the highlight of the night...and for others that had not had it, it's a great wedding as well. Love to hear your opinions Please..... Especially from those that are already married that had it or didn't have it. Are you glad you didn't have it or wished you did etc.. Thanks Everyone !!!
ETA>> I was also wondering if money was not an issue...would you have or you won't. I see a lot of posts where they will not have it because of the $$$$ and I'm trying to eliminate that option. Thanks.

I didn't have one and I'm glad I didn't spend the extra money for it. I did have what you are thinking about - where they bring a tray or dishes to each table. I think that worked out much better.

Us too. People were dancing too hard to even notice. I feel like a Viennesse would have broken up the party.
Most people are happy to just have cake.

Ditto on all counts! As much as I'm dessert-obsessed, I don't regret not having the full blown Viennesse.

Re: Viennesse Hour
I didn't have one, and I dont 'regret it' per se...
But after going to Maxine's wedding, where she had THE MOST AMAZING viennesse hour I have ever witnessed - well now I have to say that I kinda wish we had done it. It truly was one of the many highlights of her reception, and it truly seemed that every single person went crazy for it !!
Yup it was THAT good
There was still so much time to dance and party, I don't think it was disruptive whatsoever. Actually it added to the party
That said - I don't think people think it 'lessens' your reception whatsoever NOT to have one .. people will enjoy the cake and whatever else you plan to offer them. Do what makes you happy, and won't break the bank of course

We didnt have one. And dont regret it. Our fuests were so busy dancing..they ere barely ever at the table aafter dinner so I htink in our case it would have been a waste since we had a dancing crowd.
I have been to a weddings that had and it was a hit and some where the people barely touched it. So I assessed my crowd..its really the people that determine if its worth it or not.

I have a mix of guests. Some that will be partying all night and some that probably will dance slow songs etc. (older guests)

Re: Viennesse Hour
We argued about it an I didn't want it and thought it would disrupt the night. What disrupted the night was the cake cutting because that's when things got going and they just did the Viennese right after. All the partiers ate and came right back to the dance floor. I was sooo wrong about this and I'm sooo glad we had it. I don't think I would have minded not having it, but after I did, I'm more than happy about it. It was the highlite of the night for a lot of guests and I'm really glad we had the extra hour because I was not ready for it to be over.

It is soo nice to have one but i don't think it is needed.. People eat sooooo much throughout the wedding..all the weddings i have been to i could barely eat the cake!

We had a good mix too. I would say 40% young and the rest were between early 40's to early 50's. But part of our determination was the amount of food they already had. We had alot thrown in for cocktail hour.. so say about 30 hot/cold items plus 3 stations shrimp and fruit etc. then they had a four course meal including desert. then there was wedding cake plus the hall put out a mini vienesse that had cookies and pastries and cordial/coffee bar. Then we had rum cake and chocolates for favors. Now the hall offers a full vienesse on top of this..do you think you could have eaten more..thats how you have to look at it..are they going to want more. For us though it would have been pretty, it was just going to be a waste of money since most were more interested in dancing, drinking and socializing. But this may also be a cultural thing too. One of my friends is italian and she siad at mos titalian weddings this is expected..so I think you have to look at it from, guest angle and perhaps cultural..
BTW I think you know I had a mishap with my DJ being late and we ended up haviing an almost 7 hr reception so I should have been the 1st one praying for a vienesse hour

Re: Viennesse Hour
Ours was thrown in as a free extra bc Craig was trying to haggle with the price - I am SO GLAD we had it!! They told us it was going to be a mini Viennese table, but they rolled out 5 tables worth of desserts!!!! It was one of the most memorable parts of the day walking down the line and picking every single dessert we wanted! My best friend enjoyed it so much that for her wedding, her fiance demanded it be included too I highly recommend having it if you can - ours was just wonderful!

Re: Viennesse Hour
our guests got so much food and dessert that we felt we didnt need it for dessert they got cake, choc dipped strawberries, then carts of all cakes and assorted desserts stopped at each table...it was perfect and no additional cost

Re: Viennesse Hour
I kept saying the same thing, 'People will be full by then and we got extras at cocktail hour and we have mini-viennese.' But, in my case, those comments seem ridiculous now. I can't believe how much people ate at the Viennese hour (No matter how full I've evre been at a wedding, I've always managed to have something at Viennese). Plus, those who were too full or had kids to go home to, took food home with them. And that extra hour is so nice. After going through it, I would shell out the extra money to have it last longer in a heartbeat.

Re: Viennesse Hour
At first I was really against it and thought it was the biggist waste of money! BUT my fh has NEVER been to a wedding that didnt have one and it was a 'must' for him. I am SO GLAD we did it!!! Not that I got to have much of it! But my guests really did go crazy for it!!! everyone rushed to the dance floor!! His family was more used to it but my friends and family were really blown away b/c they had never seen one before. I definitly think it was worth the extra money!
