Re: VP Palin?

I think a big part of Obama's refusal to discuss Palin's teenage daugther stems from the fact that he a father of two young daughters who he also wants to be off-limits. I think it is very respectable and says a lot about his character and I am not really a big fan of him.... and I think many people, not just single moms support not going after politician's children!

As for Palin, I am sad that the potential first woman vice president (and therefore a possible viable candidate for presidnet in the future) will be someone who supports forcing a woman who was raped to have a child produced by that rape. I thought it was awesome that the republicans were going with a candidate who supported reasonable exceptions to a ban on abortion and didn't support adding a ban on gay marriage to the constitution and then they went and pandered to social conservatives. I hope enough women take a moment to look at her views and not just the fact that she is a woman.

Same here. Womens rights and abortion strictly have to do with RELIGION. And religion should play no part in any election. I would never vote for a woman who was against a woman's right to choose, PERIOD.

Next, (while we are talking about hypocrisy), you cannot call Sarah Palin inexperienced if you support Obama and think he is experienced enough to be president of our country. They both have the same amount of experience.

Third, this was a very positive choice for all women. It is historic, but also makes us (and our daughters) see that we can truly be anything we want to by - and that is an important lesson.

They do not have the same amount of experience. She has no national experience, and her executive experience covers only a fraction of the money and manpower that he has had to balance in his campaign alone. Frankly, his legislative experience with a larger population in Chicago is more relevant than the fact that she worked her way up through the PTA in the least populous state. This leaves aside the fact that he's actually been to Russia to discuss non-proliferation, as opposed to just living next to it, and that he's served on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the subcommittee on European Affairs.

Frankly, her positions on women's issues are hypocritical and her willingness to serve under a man who doesn't believe she should be able to enforce equal pay rules unless she catches it in time is the wrong message to send to our daughters. She's gone on and on about what great choices she and her daughter made, but wouldn't give me the same opportunity. She's no role model for women.

ITA. Sadly, women are going to vote for McCain and Palin only for the fact that she is a possible woman VP. I dont care what she is. I dont agree with her views so Im not voting for them.

I agree! My family is Christian so unfortunately they can be narrowminded and only vote for candidates that have the same religious beliefs as them. Needless to say they voted for Bush and look at where that got us.

U can go back and forth on this subject...honestly i think it evens out with all the male chauvinist voters who'll REFUSE to vote just because there's a female vp..honestly my first thought was 'holy crap - this could be a really BAD move' because of all the male voters that could be lost...

totally disagree here..while yes, there are christians in this world who are 'narrowminded' if u could call it that, i actually know a lot of christians that are pro-choice...just like i know alot of democrats that are pro-life. have to agree to disagree on this one...everyone has their own beliefs and views 'religious' or not... half the population wont consider themselves religious but they'll always have a viewpoint and an opinion and which way they sway is their own personal right.

and i just have to add that our country was FOUNDED on christianity...to say that God/Religion should have NO part in any election is silly imo.. it's fine if u personally feel that way because yes this country is a pure melting pot filled with all different culture & beliefs..but u cant really be annoyed at someone elses opinion who differs then yours when our country's roots are of that. they remain and always will..can't change that. again, jmo.

It may have been based on Christianity but our forefathers fought to have seperation of church and state. The constitution states, 'Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.' Its just the way it should be. Religion has NO PLACE in an election. Although it was the reason George Bush was elected a second time. It all came down to stem cells and how it was 'destruction of human life' because God implants our bodies with our soul' Thats what the last election came down to, thats how George Bush won. The truth is, many people, especially Middle America care about things like being Anti-Abortion and Anti gay rights, Pro-Guns, you know the 'AMERICAN' way of living when in actuality its the 'Christian' way of living. They care more about these things than the important issues and thats what George Bush's second election came down to in the end. I choose to elect someone based on what they will do for their country not for what God they believe in. That has absolutely nothing to do with me and Im sorry if this seems offensive but its the truth. And IM definitely not annoyed at anyones opinions. Fine, be anti-womens right, but what a woman chooses to do with her body should have nothing to do with who gets elected as president. What does a woman having an abortion have to do with running this country? Why is it even a factor in deciding who will be president? How does that make sense. Innocent troops have been sent over to Irag over and over again to fight a war that most people have no idea why were fighting. Innocent soldiers are still dying but were worried about whether women should be able to have an abortion.

I have a problem voting for someone whose own family so clearly demonstrates why sex education is needed but who is a proponent of abstinence only programs.

Also, as for our country being founded on Christianity: while our country was founded by a Christian majority, it was founded ON the belief that religion and governement should be separate, and since a large population of this country is here due to religious persecution in other countries, it is very important to remember tthat.

Thanks for posting.

Just wanted to say that everyone has an OPINION and it is never based just on cold hard facts, it is based on feelings, culture, experience, family life etc and sometimes yes RELIGION. But just because religion is ONE of the many influences on my opinion, doesn't make me some blind follower of that religion. And it doesn't make my opinion any less educated or valid.

that's all i was trying to say. when you talk politics, you have to just agree to disagree. You can put 20 people in the room, and everyone will not only a different opinion, but also have different reasons why their opinion is what it is. EVERYONE has their opinions & personal belief systems..just like they'll all have an opinion on why whoever becomes president won. bottom line is, as americans we have to respect whoever is the leader of our country, whether we agree on everything they do or not...they do what they feel is the best they can do in the position & circumstance that our country is in. NO ONE is in the presidential position...there are a lot of everyday people in this world who have their idea of how our country should be run...but a lot of things are easier said then done & have a huge domino effect on other issues. There will always be democrats, there will always be republicans, and there will always be the independents who truly cast their opinion based on their research & beliefs...there will be feminists & male chauvenists, conservatives & liberals, etc. etc. etc...the list will go on & on...so like i said, everyone needs to agree to disagree..and what matters is that everyone is at the polls in november!
