It was a few years ago that I was there and we went to the Chart House.

If it's ANYTHING like the Chart House is Tahoe, I'm sure it was PHENOMENAL! (It's steaks, btw)...but sooooo good!

This is actually in Northern California...Monterey and Carmel...two gorgeous towns...but, wrong area. And, it's really called 'Seventeen Mile Drive.'

Re: We are off to San Diego!!

where do I begin...

too bad I won't be around...you and Suzanne both picked weekends we are away

although we are going to try to get home sat night...since we are going to Duran Duran on Sunday night!! woo hoo

OK what to do...
**La Jolla is great - great shops...great food (the best breakfast place in SD IMO - Harrys) - and the SEALS!! they are so CUTE!! and its free!!! LOL
**Coronado is nice...but a little crowded to drive around...but the Hotel del Coronado is a great place to have dinner
**Balboa Park...SD's version of Central Park...
**Old Town...the best Mexican food in SD IMO is Old Town Mexican Cafe...there will be a wait, but you get to see the women making the tortillas while you wait...
**gas lamp...great places to eat...but if you are out too late be prepared to wait!!! and NO parking...if you want to party...this is the area..
**if you want animals...the wild animal park is better...this is where the 'extra' animals from the zoo go roam free...and it will be a little warmer there in Escondido
**hot air balloons...not really sure where they start, but they fly over my new apartment by the Del Mar Fairgrounds
**Del Mar...cute small town to walk around
**moutain biking - DH and I tried to do this...but found out that it was closed that day!!
-not major mountain biking...just going down and then some lunch...
**San Diego Surf Academy...it is really a lot of fun...its a beginner beach and the coach is great...although he goes to Baja for the winter...not sure when that is...
**it will probably be a little chilly for the beach...but Silver Strand is great...its the strip of land at the south of Coronado
**Torrey Pines State Park - golf, beach, hiking...
**Horatio Hornblower - a 1 hour crusie through SD Bay

DO NOT go to Universal...i just went there with our niece and nephew this summer and it was such a rip off...but if you go there or any park...grab a utility bill from your grandfather and try to get the So Cal resident rate

Im not a big fan of Tijuana...its cool to walk through and buy cheap stuff...but its pretty sad...hat a thin line in the sand makes such a difference...babies and toddlers begging and spit at people who don't give...if you go...I would go in the morning...but not too early...and only stay 2 hours...and watch your ass...it gets touched a lot

let me know if you want to do something and I didn't mention it - and I'll give you some good restuarant recommendations...

Re: We are off to San Diego!!

for a great place to eat on the water - north of San Diego...Beach House in Cardiff by the Sea...the upstairs is a little more casual (inexpensive) but both have great views of the ocean...

Bertrards at Mister A's...this is definitely a pricey place...but its great b/c is on top of a building (a little further from downtown on the park) and you can watch the planes land...
and the food is just out of this world...this is where we went for our anniversary...adn Suzanne too

Sevilla in the gas lamp district is good Spanish food/tapas

Donovans in La Jolla/UTC is supposed to be great for steaks (haven't been there yet)

Sushi on the rocks is good in La Jolla (any restuarant is good in La Jolla) - we've also been to Georgios, Aqua and an Italian place next to there...which I can't think of the name...

Re: We are off to San Diego!!

OOOOhh - I did the hot air balloon in SD. It was so awesome and they give you lunch and champagne. It was so AMAZING! You can go at dust or dawn. Either way you get to see the sunrise/sun set. I would definately go and do that again.
