Wedding in New Orlean's in October
My husband and I just got an invite to a wedding in New Orlean's. It is a Saturday night, church at 5:30, reception to follow. On the recpection to follow card it say's 'Coat and Tie Required' Now does that mean 'Suit' or 'Dress pants with sport coat and tie'?? We don't want to be the over dressed 'New Yorkers'.
What should I wear??? Saturday night in New York is very formal, but in New Orleans???
Help me
-Amy

Re: Wedding in New Orlean's in October
I'm thinking your husband would be fine in either a suit or a sport coat with dress pants. For you-what time of year is the wedding? Depending on when you go you could go with something w/ spaghetti straps (like a knee length cocktail dress). The weather there is much more mild during our 'cold months'. Do you feel comfortable asking the bride or groom what their expectations are? Or maybe you know another guest going? Where are you staying? We went there last May and stayed at the Marriott. There is so many good places to eat, if you like oysters- go to Acme Oyster House, Emeril has a restaurant there called NOLAs, excellent! You must go to Pat O'Brian's for a hurricane.

Re: Wedding in New Orlean's in October
I have been to a few southern weddings and they do not get as dressed as we do up here. Your husband should be fine in a light suit or a sports coat and pants. A nice sundress or simple black dress would be good for you. I wore a beautiful silk pants suit and was way over dressed.Remember is its HOT and Humid down there and definately go to Pat O'Briens. One hurricane and you'll forget what day it is lol. There is also a river walk down there is that is very nice and definately visit the cemeteries....very weird.

Re: Wedding in New Orlean's in October
Thanks for all the help! I think I have the perfect dress to wear. Its long and black with a little pattern on the top half. All of the people we know who are also going are guys with no girlfriends, SO I dont't have anyone to ask 'what are you wearing'New Orleans should be cool.. We are flying in on Saturday morning because we have a wedding Friday night. We will stay until Monday. So maybe after the wedding Saturday night and Sunday and Sunday night we can check out the town.
Thanks
