i really like chuck palaniuk, he wrote fight club, diary, choke, survivor, etc......
sarah dunnant is really good for historical fiction that isn't overly romancy. she wrote the birth of venus and in the company of the courtesan.
for chik lit, i really do like emily griffen. all 3 of her books have been really enjoyable.
sarah waters is also very good. all her books take place in victorian london, have some mystery and are generally lesbian themed. she's a great writer.
oh, and my fave fave is jeannette winterson!! written on the body is one of my fave books ever, it's written so sensually. i think i've gotten this book for all of my friends as xmas gifts at one point.

I like crime mysteries too! I cant get into Patterson. But then again I have only tried the Alex Cross series.
You girls should try Tess gerritsen. GREAT police thrillers.
Book1-The Surgeon Book 2-The Apprentice Book 3-The Sinner Book 4-Body DOuble Book 5-Vanish (Thes best next to the Surgeon) Book 6-The Mephisto Club
All of those have the same recurring character.

I really enjoyed Lisa Lutz's series: The Spellman Files. Super entertaining, easy reads but well written too! They were recommended by an Editor I know:

Thanks Tina! You rock. The name of the one you gave to your friends is 'Written on the Body' ? I am going to look for it if you reccomend it that highly.

I used to read Danielle Steele alot- lots of romance smut novels
I love James Frey (yes, that was the big controversy over his book A Million Little Pieces) but I LOVED that book and his next book My Friend Leonard is one of my all time fav books!
Also love Running with Scissors and his next book DRY.. by Augusten Burroughs

Marie have you read the childrens books by//crap I forget his name..I did a project on his books. The one who wrote 'I Love you forever?'
My kids (2nd graders) LOVED the Lily books by Kevin Henkes. I did a whole unit on her for my final project. Even my little 'demons' loved Lilly and it was great to see them yelling at the other rug wigglers like 'I WANT TO EHAR TEH STORY!'
She's a trip so they can relate to her because sometimes she is VERY naughty but she always repents in the end.
