what did you do with your wedding dress???

Original post by theluckiest

Wondering what most people do with their wedding gowns after their wedding? I'm thinking of having mine preserved, but I hear that can cost alot of money. I'm afraid that if I don't preserve it my gown will become yellowed through the years. any ideas &/or suggestions?

im not married yet but i am going to get my preserved after the wedding. i know one of my friends, friends made her dress into her daughters christining dress. i thought that was very creative.

Ditto on Moehick's reply. I do intend to preserve it, but haven't chosen a service, yet.

Having mine preserved and boxed at the moment. I'll put my tiara and garter and corset in there with it also. Um, maybe I can try it on in 20 years to see if it still fits. I doubt that'll happen.

Mine was preserved, I am thinking about selling it.

I had mine cleaned and preserved-boxed up by my dry cleaners - veil included for a total of $140. You should try to do that so the dress doesn't get ruined. I have it in the attic and hopefully one day my daughter (if I have one) will wear it.

I'm still trying to decide -- as it sits in the closet -- whether to preserve it or try to sell it. I've heard of using it to make it into a christening outfit for the baby and since that's happening alot sooner than expected...well, that's an option too.

Same here. I preserved it, but now as it sits at my inlaws house, I'm not sure why I'm holding onto it.

I loved my gown , but for whatever reason have no emotional attachment to it . If I could get some money for it, it would be great. But I'm too lazy to go about selling it right now

I got it cleaned and preserved in an acid-free box. It was the most expensive yet beautiful clothing I've ever bought/worn thus I could not part with it.

Another Wed-Clean Bride here!
I sent it off to them, they sent it back to me....for about $100 it was preserved and boxed up.
Now it's stuck behind the tv cabinet - th eonly place the giant box would fit

I got mine preserved also. Its in the bottom of the closet now. If I were able to have a baby I would have a Christening outfit made out of it so I could pass that on to my child,(most daughters really dont want to wear their mothers dress). I was thinking of having it made into a quilt to put on the bed in the spare room. This way I could look at the material and have the memories. For now though at least it is safe till I decide to leave it there or do something with it!

Mine was preserved, in the box is my dress, veil, headpiece...I think that's it. The only problem is that the box is enormous. When we lived in our apt, it was under the coffee table, when we moved to our house, it was in various spots before finally ending up under my daughter's bed. No idea what I'm going to do with it when she's old enough to want to use that space!

Still in the spare room, waiting to bring it to the dry cleaner who does preservation. I was also waiting until all the final wedding charges and Christmas charges were paid to spend the $ on it
