'Wow, I'm shocked!' was my FMIL's reaction. Of course, neither parents actually said 'Congratulations' to either of us. Both sets of parents did not openly look happy for us. I was distrat and upset, but not going to let that stop me from being happy and moving forward with my life because neither set of parents were happy with their lives.

My IL's were thrilled. DH proposed while we were on a family trip to Maine. He has the jewler ship the ring to NY (we live in CO) and told him mom, a box is coming, don't open it, just bring it with you so she thought maybe just maybe. So after he proposed and we met back up with everyone she was like I knew it!! Then we had a huge family BBQ and my mom came up from Philly and she was thrilled also. I didn't tell her over the phone. We surprised her at dinner one night. I took my ring off and said we have something to tell you. After the fact she thought we were going to tell her I was pregnant

My DH is the youngest and ONLY boy in the family so when he decided to pop the question everyone (including his 3 sisters) were ecstatic. His mother was more exited that I was Italian rather than the fact I was marrying her son

My in-laws knew we were getting engaged before I knew .. my MIL went with DH to help him pick out my ring
By all accounts, they were thrilled... and when we finally went to see them after the ring was on my finger, they offically 'welcomed me to their big Greek family'
I think mainly they were thrilled because they NEVER thought they would get rid of him .. DH had always sworn that he was NEVER going to get married ...

My parents knew months before I did. They even helped him plan the proposal. They had a July 4th barbecue and had a cake for my birthday which is a few days away. The cake was to make me think that that's why I was being called to come stand infront of 150 people. They sang happy birthday and then called him to come up and that's when he popped the question. He was nervous and sweating.
My FMIL has yet to even say congratulations. FIL passed away years ago.
