what do I do with this wedding gift check made out to a person that doesn't exist?

A few people from my family have written out checks to Mrs. Moria McNally. Well, I didn't change my name, so there is no Moria McNally. What should I do?

Do you two have a joint account? If you endorse it, you should be able to cash it.

Re: what do I do with this wedding gift check made out to a person that doesn't exist?

One of my guests wrote a check out to us...but put my DH's Dad's name instead of his. The bank put it through anyway...no questions asked. Some banks aren't very strict with that sort of thing.

Re: what do I do with this wedding gift check made out to a person that doesn't exist?

My Husband and I opened up a joint account and endorsed the checks that were written out to me with my new last name.

Both you and your husband can endorse, and should be ok

Re: what do I do with this wedding gift check made out to a person that doesn't exist?

I deposited my checks before I changed my names...and the bank just told me to sign that name...

but I think most of the checks that had the married name...also had his...so he could endorse it

you may ask the bank if you can add an aka to your account

Re: what do I do with this wedding gift check made out to a person that doesn't exist?

Same thing happened to me. I endorsed the check using my maiden name and future married name and wrote 'for deposit only.' The only problem I had were with checks over $5000. Endorse the checks with both names (Moria McNally and Moria Maiden Name) and go to a teller. Bring your marriage license just in case, which I showed for the checks with the high amounts. This was advice given to me from the customer service person at Citibank.

Re: what do I do with this wedding gift check made out to a person that doesn't exist?

My bank made me sign them with my full name and then DH's last name added on. It was weird, but I didn't have a problem.

Re: what do I do with this wedding gift check made out to a person that doesn't exist?

some of the more brilliant people in my family wrote our checks out to Mr & Mrs Alfred Helmut - Helmut is Al's middle name (and a bad one, I admit). Our invites said Lisa Stephanie and Alfred Helmut, so they assumed it was his last name even though they knew darn well Stephanie wasn't mine (and his parents were listed on the invite, so his last name WAS readily available). Anyway, I digress.

I just wrote in our last name and deposited them

Banks are pretty lenient with wedding checks.

Re: what do I do with this wedding gift check made out to a person that doesn't exist?

Ok, I went to the bank, and although here in the city they are usually sticklers for the rules (it took DH forever to take out a large sum of cash b/f the wedding b/c they had to do everything by the books), they were so nice. I had no problem at all.

Swags-you should def. contact the people who gave you checks you couldn't cash. They'll wonder why they were never cashed, and it'll throw their bank accounts off-not to mention they wanted you to have the money. If you or your parents call them they'll surely send you a check you can cash!

that ****s. I'd give them a call myself then-you shouldn't suffer b/c of your dad's inability to do what he says

How's the married life ? Your pics are awesome, it looks like you had a great time! We had perfect weather didn't we
