What do you regret/what would you do differently?

Original post by AeroJenn

We just got married 3 weeks ago, but looking back I would change 2 things: I would have added an extra hour onto the reception and I regret not going to the DJ earlier to tell him to play faster music.

anyone else?

I would have had our rehersal dinner in a restaurant and not in our apartment..I spent the whole 3 hours stressed and getting people drinks, extra silver ware, napkins, ect and not relaxing at all.....not fun

I really can't think of anything that I would have done diferently. Maybe not getting so stressed out that the minister was late, but I don't think that there's any way I could have done that without drugs.

I wish i had more time between my Mass and cocktail hour. we didn't really get to our cocktail hour (only about 10 minutes) because we were so busy taking pictures.

I wish i had more time to spend with my guests... i got around to everyone... and that was fine, but it took a lot of time and even then it was just 'Hi, thank you for coming'

overall, i had a great day!!

My DJ!! Or at least went up to him myself to tell him what to do even though I had told him a week earlier!!!! Everything else was great except for the weather!

I agree about the DJ....I regret that I didn't meet with him right before the wedding. I thought he would call/FM with any issues and he didn't. I also would have liked faster music earlier, but didn't say anything.
I also kind of wish I had used flowers other than tulips, they got a bit brown as the day went on.

Oh, and I wish it didn't rain, but there is nothing I could have done about that!!!!

Might have done my hair differently. It looked great at the trial, but not so great at the reception because it was windy and humid during the photos and ceremony. Everyone keeps telling me it looked great, but I'm very picky about my hair!

Would have dragged my husband out onto the dance floor more. He's not a big dancer, and I wanted to chat with people and kept thinking that we'd dance later. But I love to dance, and some of my best memories of the reception were of us dancing.

I should have made my husband model his suit for me before the wedding--he really should have had it tailored more. He has really wide weightlifter shoulders, but they didn't nip the jacket in at the waist enough.

Still, those are quibbles. I loved my wedding day!

Hi Ladies!
This is my first time replying. I just got married on July 1, 2007. I loved my wedding I think it was perfect for the to of us. Others seemed to like it as well. There is only one thing that I would change my florist. Flower Michele heard great things but they messed just about everything up. Still upset about it till this day.

Hey Jen!!!! your pics are amazing!!

I wouldnt change anything other than put my bustle up BEFORE the reception-- i for some reason FOUGHT with everyone about it--- ( wanted it to drag around) and then when it did get bustled-- Dh stepped on it.

wow. After 2 years, and having gone to about 10 weddings since mine, I would do a bunch of thigs differently:

I would have had an evening wedding so I had more time to take pictures with my family. I felt very rushed having to get all the 'getting ready' pics done in time for my 11:00 ceremony. I did not like the quality of pics I got because the photog rushed.

I would have picked a different photographer and would have been very clear about specific pics I wanted. I would have gotten multiple photographers and videographers to get a greater variety of pics.

I would have told the band to STICK TO THE SONGS I ASKED FOR. I would not just 'let it go' if they started playing songs I specifically asked them NOT to play.

I would have worn my hair differently

If I didnt change to an evening wedding, I would have had an after-party

I would have called my vendors afterwards to tell them if I was unhappy with their service.

I would have held my flowers DOWN more so they didnt cover the top of my dress in all the pictures. Again, something my photog could have told me about.

I would go over our service again with the Deacon so he wouldnt say my FIL's name instead of my husbands name.

I would reapply my lipstick before taking more pictures

I would have danced more.

Re: What do you regret/what would you do differently?

I loved my train so much I didn't want my bustle up 'yet'--it was OK for our first dance, and looks nice in the photos, but then they started the hora and I wasn't expecting it. We were whirling around and around and my train kept falling and getting stepped on. It was interesting, anyway! Then we went upstairs and my husband did the bustle for me. The attendant came in and said, 'can I help you' and I said, 'nope, we're fine here' and my husband's head popped out from underneath my skirt. You'd think she'd never seen a man doing his wife's bustle before! We actually used that as a euphemism a few times during the honeymoon. 'Would you like to go back to the room so I can do your bustle now?' 'Why, yes, I think I'd like that!'

Hmmm... I've thought a lot about this in the past year. I'm a perfectionist, so even the little things that went wrong have driven me nuts.

-I wish it didn't rain, but I really couldn't change that.

-I would have used the same photographer, but I would have given them a list of 'must-take' pictures

-I would have been more clear with the band that I did not want any audience participation (apparently taking the macarena, chicken dance, electric slide, and other songs off the play list wasn't good enough, since they made up their own audience participation dances).

-I wish we had taken less pictures at the church so we could take more pictures at the Woodlands before it started to rain

-I wouldn't have trusted my baker when they said I had nothing to worry about. The cake they made was not what I asked for.

-We dandced A LOT, but we spent too much time talking to my husband's parents friends and co-workers- and missed some songs I REALLY wanted to dance to

-I would have relaxed more when things went wrong (I really only freaked out about the cake- but I made it a bigger deal than it should have been)

I Had to Think about this one ALOT...

I guess the one Thing I Regret and it actually bothered me on our HM so I do not know why I didn't think of this ealier is...................

That I do Not have a Pic with my flowergirl. I have pics of her with my SIL (her mother) & other SIL. But Not one ALONE.

That really Upset me.
Plus my Little RB was all over the place. So he is NOT IN ONE pic at all. I Don't have a Pic with him either. I wish he was so I could put him in the album.

And I would have been MORE specific. I was too blase about too many things that now I wish I was more clear on the details I wanted and expected.

I know...me too...

i think I would have made a detailed itinerary for my BP. They kind of lost their wits on the day of and kept referring all questions to me. I was a bit overwhelmed. I would have also been a lot more firm and asked many more questions to my vendors. I feel like a lot of them got over on me. But, then again I was dealing with a lot and planning this by myself...

In the end I loved my wedding!

Re: What do you regret/what would you do differently?

hi

first time posting on this board
I know, I'm late

I would have been more careful with my bustle while I danced.... I stepped on the hem while twirling about, and it started to fall apart....

I also would have been more careful about my hair and the windy / drizzly weather... it looked GREAT when I left the salon, but the wind and moisture totally melted all the hairspray, and made my hair collapse before the start of the reception....

I hope those dock pictures were worth it!

(we did extend the reception an hour.... 1 hour CH, followed by a 4.5 hour reception... it did extend the fun, but some guests ditched about an hour early.... so don't have too many regrets about not extending things!)

Re: What do you regret/what would you do differently?

I forgot to add this,my darn bustle fell down at the very start of the reception, so I danced very silly all night, its rather hard holding your dress up most of the night and dancing. Plus we couldnt do our special dance for our first dance of the night-we took dance lessons and all, at first the groom had no idea what was going on, so in the beginning of our first dance in the pictures we dont look so happy, then I told him and we just took it slow and laughed as we danced, as everytime we moved, I almost slipped and fell. So I regret not being more demanding about locking up that bustle. I grabbed my dress all night and it was a pain, but it didnt stop me, I danced all night anyway....but if I were a bride to be now, I would make sure there were 30 bustle clips so it wouldnt fall down.
