I'm so disgusted with myself right now. I put on my black capri pants to go to a shower this afternoon, and I had to spend about 10 minutes wrestling with myself to get them on. I felt like the whale in the Hamptons. I just wore these pants in December in PR and didn't have a problem at all.
I know it's my own fault because I've been pretty sedentary, and haven't had the wedding stress to keep weight off, but this is ridic.
Can you please recommend something that will get rid of the pooch? I actually eat very well now (I used to be at my mom's mercy with processed, canned, boxed, etc, but now I eat a lot fresher), so it's not really a diet issue so much as a lack of activity issue. TIA!

Re: What gets rid of belly fat?
awww Ali you are crazy! You are long and lean, I'd kill for that!
That being said, you know your body. Unfortunately, there is no way to 'spot reduce' fat and just lose it from the belly area. Could you just be bloated? Get some cardio in there and weight training.
I know you say you are eating well and that is great! Are you eating the right number of calories for your body? Or the right combinations of food?
Hang in there1 I am no stranger to uncomfy weight issues!

Re: What gets rid of belly fat?
The ONLY thing helping me right now is my height...and I know that. If I wasn't so tall, it would look a lot worse.
My typical day's intake is:
Breakfast: 2 pieces of toast (usually wheat) with smart balance, cup of coffee with either 1/2 teaspoon of sugar and fat free half and half or flavored creamer.
Lunch: Nutra Grain bar, box of mini raisins, 100 calorie pack of natural almonds, 7 saltines, water, natural peanut butter and strawberry preserves or raspberry jam on whole wheat.
Dinner: Obviously varies, but we try to have salad at least 4 nights a week, with EVOO, lemon juice, white balsamic, sometimes a bean in it, sometimes feta, and a meat (usually chicken) and a carb (usually pasta). Sometimes it's a casserole that has everything with cheese, and if there's cheese, it's natural or skim or fat free.
We rarely snack, but if I do, it's dark chocolate from Easter...and at least that has antioxidants haha.
So I think I'm eating a decent amount of calories, balanced meals, etc....so I don't know why I'm ballooning. I need to join a gym or something, because I don't even know what type of cardio to do. I hate to run or jog, and I'm not good at sports. I just feel so useless lol. Maybe I've just finally gotten older and got past that stage of being able to do whatever I want without any repercussions.

Re: What gets rid of belly fat?
Well in looking at your meals they look a bit carb heavy...not much protein in there other than the almonds peanut butter and chicken at dinner. i would try to get some protein in at breakfast, perhaps some egg whites or even whole eggs? Also only 3 meals a day does not let you rmetabolism stay consistent through out the day. Aim for 5 meals to help with a steady metabolic rate.
As for cardio, what about running? you dont need a gym for that! I love the elliptical and adore spinning...but that's just me!

Re: What gets rid of belly fat?
I eat eggs on the weekends....and sometimes I have avocados in my salads. Probably not enough, consistently...I wish I had time in the morning to eat more, but I can't bring myself to get up early enough. Also, my lunch is usually spread out over the course of 2 hours...like I'll have the raisins and the almonds and a banana, then wait, then the nutra grain and saltines, then wait, then finish with the sandwich. Does that count as 3 meals then?
I hate hate hate running. Probably because my azzhole 4th grade gym teacher made a big point of announcing to the whole class that I came in dead last during the mile run. Are there any other types of (PG rated) cardio that I can do without needing a gym?

Got ya..>id' still try to get more protein in during your breakfast and lunch. what about fat free or low fat greek yogurt? SO high in protein and delicious!
I think it's good to spread your lunch out over the course of the day..that's fine...good plan. What about having some sort of lunch meat or tuna on your sandwich? Again, just for some protein and to lighten some of the carbs.
As for cardio what about a workout DVD? Do you lke to dance? Maybe get a zumba dvd? They are fun!

Oh yeah, I have greek yogurt all the time...not so much during the week, but for lunch on weekends. I would eat a lunch meat, but if you saw my office refrigerator...you'd steer clear of eating anything that needs to be refrigerated too
I do like to dance...sounds like it's time to break back out the belly dance dvds, or get something a little more intense.
Thanks for all the guidance...I'll definitely try this. I'll be damned if I have to go buy new clothes, I'm way too cheap to do that!

If you cut down on your carbs (even good ones) you'll probably feel your stomach get flatter but maybe that's just me.

Re: What gets rid of belly fat?
Also looking at your days intake. I would say add in more protein & veggies also some fuit & try to switch to multi grain bread rather then wheat as wheat tends to bloat you & it seems you eat alot of it. Just a thought. Also i see you maybe taking in too much sugar. With teh carbs jelly & yogurt. Thats alot. HTH
Cardio & ab work. Its the only thing to get rid of belly jelly. lol
If you cant get to a gym or hat ethem then get outside! Walk run or even get a DVD of something u may liek to do &then hit that floor & do some abs. Good luck Ali

Re: What gets rid of belly fat?
I just read that eating eggs, not egg whites, whole eggs, can help boost weight loss. Not sure if its true, but one of the mags... Shape, Self... can't remember which one mentioned it. I have heard that they found that egg yolks are actually not as bad for you as they thought.
I am in the same boat. I am heavier then usual by a lot but its mostly in my belly. My old trainer (I can't afford her any more, but still ask her advice) said there is no short cut for stomach. Building ab muscles help but its ultimately cardio that will do it.

Re: What gets rid of belly fat?
I agree with the other girls replace some of your carbs with lean proteins and veggies. Your lunch could use a major over hall. If your office refrigerator is gross invest in an insulated lunch box with a re-freezable ice pack. You can also buy tuna and salmon in vacuum sealed packs. They do not require refrigeration or a can opener. Multigrain breads are better for you then wheat...also cheese and beans both have protein but are also another source of carbs. Try keeping a food diary for a few weeks and see what you are actually eating fitday.com is a free online program that allows you to track you macro and micro nutrients. I find pilates is great for tightening the tummy as well as crunches and a good cardio work out.

Re: What gets rid of belly fat?
Hmmm I dont think your breakfast is the best choice. Try Oatmeal with fruit in it! You'll be how surprise how good it is...cereal with skim milk, try ONE piece of toast, with eggs?
The salads seem good, but not sure if theyre filling for you...try having grilled chicken, fish, shrimp with it.
Also try yoga, spinning classes if you dont like running. Good luck...i know its hard!
p.s- i do the abdominals class that NYSC offers ..and i have to say my class/instructor is amazing its 30 minz of just ab excercises and the next day i cant even laugh cuz it hurts lol but the results are visible...

Re: What gets rid of belly fat?
Have you noticed a gain in weight by looking at a scale? If your weight is the same, were the capri pants new when you last wore them? Maybe they shrunk a little in the wash. Just trying to think of another possibility.

Re: What gets rid of belly fat?
The only thing getting rid of my belly/baby fat is a tummy tuck and some lipo Ali if you could see the way I look you wouldnt worry one bit. But I do have to say that my stomach is the only area I again and lose, odd but, true and I wish I know what could make it all go away.

Re: What gets rid of belly fat?
Thanks for all the suggestions!!! The tuna/salmon would be an easy fix, but I haven't had tuna in probably 3-4 years in an attempt to rid my body of mercury (not good for when you have kids and stuff), and I don't like any other fish. I know it sounds like I'm making excuses/picky lol. I guess the food thing will have to be a work in progress. I'm going to try to get only whole grain bread now instead of wheat, and whole grain instead of white pasta, and up my intake of fruits, veggies, and proteins. I usually have berries and avocados in the house which I put in my salad as well.
I just got finished working out for the first time in...a year? OOF. I did the OnDemand abs workout, then followed it by a few sections of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader workouts for some cardio. It was a lot of fun, so I think I'm going to get those DVDs this week so I can do that with my belly dancing mixed in, and that should be pretty good until I get to join a gym. Whoohoo!
