Re: what have you cut back on...
probably eating out also.
We hang out in the city more so we don't have to drive as much ( We ride LIRR for free so it's cheaper to hop on a train & hang out in the city then drive somewhere)

Nothing.....since we have regular cars, it isn't that big of a difference. If DH didn't drive to and from Manhattan 6 times a week and then around Manhattan, it would be even better!

We used to commute separately, but now we take one car into the City. We also eat out less and have been much better about eating down what we have in our fridge, freezer and pantry before stocking up again.

We have cut back on eating out and we have also been good about eating more of what's in the house before going shopping again. We used to get in the car and just drive, but with the price of gas we really don't do that.

Re: what have you cut back on...
it sounds funny, but in a way, the gas crisis has helped me.
as many of you know--i think that DH's dad is the scum of the earth....he's a jerk and i can't stand him. he has the tendency to call up DH when he knows that he's off from work and beg and plead him to 'give him a ride' somewhere--cause he has a)no license -- its suspended 203929x over and b)no car.
before my DH would do it---and many times it would be 'can you driving to bay shore -- get some money from so-and-so cause i'm borrowing some money till the 1st of the month--then bring it to me in central islip and then take me to x, y, and z and then back home' we live in freaking HUNTINGTON.....its not a 5 min. drive. that adds up to a LOT of gas.
so now when DH's dad calls up--my DH has the ability to say 'NO' cause of the gas. he'll tell his dad 'sorry--but i'm low on gas and unless you're giving me some money -- i can't go' usually his douchewad dad will get pisssed off and hang up on him.
that part sux...but at least it shows my DH what a jerk his dad is and he can actually say NO once in awhile.

Re: what have you cut back on...
We barely drive anymore, even though we get pretty good gas milage with our corolla. We take the train to work and we do one massive food shopping trip every month.

Nothing. We don't drive really.
Another advantage of living in the city.

We are in the same boat...DH is actually thinking about buying a bike to ride to work!
But since saving for a house I don't buy clothes and shoes anymore

Re: what have you cut back on...
I have stopped driving to a million little places to get things & centralized my shopping to WalMart &/or the supermarket. . I used to go to the bakery & the butcher, the fish market, and the Italian market. I think it also has a lot to do with time management.
and yes, I know WalMart is the anti Christ, but the one by us has everything & it IS cheaper. It has everything - butcher, food, deli counter, bakery, organic produce, guns... everything! I am still weirded out by getting seafood and a few other things there but for the most part, I shop there.
