What is the hardest thing you've ever had to do?

What is the hardest thing you've ever had to do?

My grandmother (my mom's mom) passed away in Nov of 1998 I had dinner at my parents and went with my Dad to go see my grandmother at Mercy Hospital. When we got there the nurse told us that my grandmother had literally passed away 2 min before we got there. They hadnt even started calling to notify the immediate family yet. This was hard enough for me to handle as I feel like I never got to truly say goodbye to my grandmother...but the hardest thing Ive ever had to do was go home to tell my mom that her mom had died. (I still cry when I think about it)

The hardest thing I had to do was make the decision 11 months ago to either take my Father off life support and let him pass or let him be a vegetable for the rest of his life.
My parents were separated and I was his next of kin... also listed on his proxy.

After lots of testing and crying I decided to let him go. That was hard... Before they took the tubes out they asked if I wanted to stay in the room and I just couldn't so my Aunt and Uncle stayed. I was right outside the door.....I'll never forget that feeling ever. It felt like all of my insides were being ripped out.... It was awful.... and there was nothing I could do. And then I went back into the room and just prayed and held his hand. He passed peacefully within the hour.

The hardest thing I have ever had to do is face the day my baby brother died. The phone woke me and from there the rest of the day was surreal. DH and I rushed to the hospital to meet my parents. I can still see him lying there so peaceful. After a few hours we finally left the hospital and had to call all of our friends and family and plan a funeral. It was only 2 weeks after his 25 birthday. I still can't believe it.

I'm sorry to all you girls for your losses

Aside from deaths in my family, which there have been many, the hardest thing I have had to do so far is give birth...I won't scare you with details, and in the end, seeing my son made me forget the pain (momentarily lol), but pheww..wasn't the best 14 hours of my life.

I am so sorry girls.

The hardest thing I ever had to do was go to my Grandma's funeral. It took me about 5 years to get over her passing. Well, I won't say get over but DEAL with her passing.

It was hard. She died the day my Sister got married. And we didn't tell my Sister because we wanted her to be happy. We told her the next day.

Then for the next 5 years, it was very hard to deal with her death. Sure- she was old and lived a full life but I loved her SO much and she was really everything to me. I am crying now. I have to go.

This is my Abuela on her wedding day. This is the only picture she was able to take out of Cuba.

I'm actually dealing with it now, although I dealt with it before. It's watching a parent (my Dad) dealing with the fact his father (my grandfather) is dying. In the last 2 weeks I've watched my Dad cry almost every day.
While I've been lucky enough to meet all of my Grandparents and 3 of my great grandparents in my lifetime, it's so much easier to deal with when you are a child. They get sick, typically go the hospital and don't come home.
But as an adult, seeing someone actually deteriorate and go through the process of dying is horrible. Add onto that, the fact I have to watch my own parents suffer with the emotions of it all, is really difficult.

oh reading this is making me so sad. . for everyone. ..

I would say learning how to walk again after spending months in a wheelchair and on crutches.. had to leave college and come home. .and I cried like every day for MONTHS. .. thought I would never be able to be active again. .

another was one cleaning out my grandmother's house with my mom after my grandma died. . so sad to go through a lifetime's collection of someones things and just sell/give stuff away. . aside from the stuff we kept of course and we would just work for hours and hours each day going through things. . finally we had an estate sale and then to watch people pick up things and comment on things like 'it's not worth $3.00' or whatever it just felt so awful to have someone's life trivialized that way. .

Barb...you and I went through a very similar situation.

In June of 2007 my sister and I had to make the decision to take our Mom off of life support or let her be a vegetable. My parents were divorced but my father was there for my mom and with us every step pf the way. My mom always said to us that she would never want to be kept on life support if it meant she would be a vegetable for the rest of her life.

So the doctors took the tubes out and told my sister and I that we could go into the room. We sat there with her and held her hand and cried and talked to her and she passed within the hour. The nurses let us sit there with her for as long as they could allow.

That was the hardest thing I have ever had to do and the hardest thing I have ever had to go through. I was lucky enough to have all 4 of my grandparents in my life but it was also very sad when they passed away. I still cry when I think of them but not having my mom here with me everyday is the most pain I have ever felt. It doesn't go away and it doesn't diminish over time...you just learn how to live with the pain. Some days are good and some are bad but you have to make the decision to move forward in your life.

Getting married was very hard for me because I did not have my mom with me. There were many times that I just wanted to give up and not go through with it but thankfully I have a strong support system and if it wasn't for my sister I wouldn't have been able to go through with it.

My sister is my rock and I know I am hers because we share this heartache and we are the only two people in the world who knows how it feels to live through this.
