What type of house do you normally gravitate to?

What type of house do you normally gravitate to?

Colonial, ranch, victorian, splanch, high ranch, etc?

I'm curious because I find myself always looking at the same style and wondered what some of you guys liked -- or if the style of house even mattered to you and DH?

I personally love Victorian style houses. I also LOVEEEE craftsman style houses. Those would be my top 2 favorites.

However, if I was looking to buy right now I would take anything lol

I happen to love Colonials - which aren't necessarily in our price range. . . but beyond that, DH and I gravitate toward splits I like all the different levels - it makes the house feel bigger to me

I absolutely love victorians ( with a wrap around porch) but i think thats just a dream for me. We have a split and i really like it becuase of the open floor plan.

i love victorians and colonials, but cannot afford them. there was a split that i LOVED, so we really liked that style too, but they tend to have small basements, which DH would never go for. DH likes ranches because of the large basement. what he didn't like were capes, yet that's what we're buying. it's rear dormered, so that's what made it OK for him.

I think capes are my least favorite because usually the ceilings in the bedroom are slanted and being that DH is 6'3 that doesn't work well for us. But when house hunting i always seem to click on capes because they are cute -- then when i see the slanted ceiling i get sad.

I've always loved Colonials! Don't see it happening in the near future. My DH likes splits because they usually have the high ceilings.

I totally agree with you. I like capes that are dormered. Not a huge fan of that slanted ceiling look..I always feel like I'm in someone's attic, yet some are done quite nicely. My cousins are slanted and I don't feel confined at all. Strange.

I really like colonials too. I find that I keep looking at them. We've been looking at alot of older homes too. Houses built in 1899 you just get so much more for your money....

yeah, if the house wasn't dormered, we didn't even bother. our first open house that we went to was for a dormered cape in plainview which i fell in love with, and that's when DH realized that not all capes are completely slanted, so we added dormered capes to the list. i still really thought we'd end up with a ranch.

it's in East Meadow. if you don't know nassau, it's like right smack in the middle, maybe slightly south. DH was also very much nothing too north, nothing too south - he's bracing for the killer hurrican LI is supposedly getting hit with at some point.
