Most generous: $1500
Least: $0 from one of my parents' friends who is notoriously cheap!

DH's dad & stepmom-$2000 (1700 before wedding to pay for vendors) and $300 day of.
2nd generous-My aunt $1000 before (she wanted to pay for our video) $300 day of along with a lenox frame.
Least generous was my cousin & her daughter -$50 but I don't consider it cheap because $$ is tight for her and they almost didn't come. I told her she didn't have to give anything because it is alot of $ to travel and the two of them being there meant so much to me. Shockingly, no one gave us $0. I thought DH's mom's flaky friends would have, but surprisingly, they were very generous.

my not so generous was 0.00, after that $50. Most generous was probably our $5,000 bedroom set from my mom

most generous cash gift would be my big brother who gave us $1100.

Least generous was $0 from two of my bosses (who make loads of money). They didn't even give a card. $0 from DH's cousin who rsvped and then never showed up. Next was $60 from family friend

Most generous (besides our parents) was one of my other bosses $1,000.

my most generous was $5000.00 from my grandparents. i was beyond shocked!!

my least generous was $0.00 from a groomsman - which we totally would have understood b/c we know that things are tight for him right now but he didn't even give us a card. that was rude.

JMO- Ehh. Of course its only human to have a reaction when ppl don't give a gift, but I try to suspend judgment on wedding gifts to be honest. Im sure some ppl can only afford to be present, others can afford little, and still others can afford to give very generous gifts. I dont think it necessarily says anything about how much ppl care or dont care. Cards are always nice and appreciated at the very least though.

i understand your POV, but no one here is saying 'best' and 'worst' gifts, just most and least generous - totally objective, not subjective. i am sure all of us are grateful for the people who showed up to celebrate our weddings with us.

$1500

a few gave us nothing (mostly people I work with, ugh, how awkward) and the winner was ....

a bounced check that cost us $15 from a guy DH works with.

My most not so generous was $0 no card or anything from 2 people (one was a GM but we aren't sure if we lost the card as DH doesn't think the GM would do that)

My most generous besides my parents was $2000 from my Godfather. I was shocked and very grateful!

Re: What was your most generous and not so generous wedding gift?

outside of what our parents gave, my Aunt's gift of $750 was the most generous and really shocked us! Then DH's Godfather who gave us around $700 I think. After that would probably be FIL's boss who gave us $500.... we don't even know the guy! He told us it was the best wedding he'd ever been to, but I'm sure he wrote the check out before hand!

We did get a couple of small gifts like $25 and $40, but they were from really really old ladies on DH's side so we were more than happy with those gifts, they were generous with what they had. So CUTE!

Our least generous was from guests on DH's side that we know have lots of money - they just sold a multi million dollar business. They gave us $75 - that was for a family of 4! 2 adults and 2 children above 10 years old! My MIL was really ticked. Whatever! Weddings aren't a money making scheme, but still. We had guests who didn't give much at all, but they came from long distances and I know it cost them a lot of money just to be there. So I have NO problem with their gifts, I was just happy they were there!

Some people are generous and give from their heart, no matter how much money they have and others are just plain old stingy... which is probably why they have so much money!

The most $$ came from my parents

The least came from my first cousin. He and his date came to the wedding and gave us $0

I was also so touched that my grand aunts (who are all very elderly and too ill to travel from queens) gave us gifts..... it was so sweet....

they used to give me quarters when I was a kid

Re: What was your most generous and not so generous wedding gift?

Least generous was a bounced check (that cost us $20 and was never made good on). A close second would be nothing. Topping the list of least generous gifts was my DH's oldest sister, a gainfully employed attorney who didn't give us a wedding gift, didn't give me a shower gift, and well, hell, she didn't even bother to RSVP to the shower! She was not alone in giving us nothing, though. We each had at least 1 coworker show up and give us nothing. One brought a date.

Most generous (after our parents whose gifts were extremely generous contributions toward the wedding) was $500, which I got from 2 people, followed by $400 from a couple more people.

I don't think this was meant to bash the people who couldn't afford gifts. I'm the first one to jump on the bandwagon that no one is entitled to a wedding gift.
