So DH and I are entering a new and interesting phase of marriage called house hunting. Wow, even in this market, houses are expensive .
Aside from trying to find something in our budget, we are also trying to find something that both of us like. My dream house is a cottagey, Cape Cod style with a huge yard. DH likes contemporary houses, in neutral colors with lots of black. Comfortable, though. Needless to say, we've both got some compromising to do!
So, my question is, if money were no object, what would be your dream home? How about your DH?

a two story house with a HUGE wrap around porch on the front, master bathroom with TWO sinks, a HUGE walk in closet in master bedroom also including a tiny balcony in the bedroom too, inground pool with a deck out back INCLUDING a separate deck for a fire pit
AND last but not least - a spiral staircase leading to the upstairs
not too much to ask right?

i have a few...depending on location.
1.) cottage style house on the ocean....nothing too big with a huge deck
2.) a craftsman style house with a big porch in the mountains...on a lake in the middle of 5 acres so i don't have a-hole neighbors cutting down all the trees and making noise all day long
3.) a victorian style house with a wrap around porch on a large plot of land with an English style garden
at this point i'd be happy with 2 more bedrooms & 1 more bath on my current 2 bedroom 1 bath one story house!

I am a dreamer...here it goes - I lovvvve Victorians....and one with a wrap around porch! I would definitely go for a newer model though as opposed to one that was built in like 1930...but would still fill it will cool antiques! I also want it to have a formal sitting parlor and a grand staircase in the foyer area. Also complete with a gormet kitchen and a Wolff Stove! Every bedroom would have its own fire place and bathroom. My master bedroom with have a sitting area and a HUGE closet...like the kind celebrities have! Also I want all the bathrooms to have old fashion tubs...with the feet!
Can you tell I have been thinking about this for a LONG time. I have literally thought about this ever since I was like 12. Remember the game Life? I lalways loved the Victorian house! Also if you've ever read VC Andrews Books, I believe they always talked about mansions with bedrooms wtih sitting areas and fire places and private bathrooms! LOVE THAT! I am dreaming here but its always fun right??!
DH is alittle more modern but whatev we can agree on a happy medium! (BUT doubt this dream will ever come true :(
craftsman or tudor with a decent back yard and front yard. Nothing huge but deff. 3 bedroom plus an office, living room and dinning room semi open to the kitchen area, 2 full baths and a garage.
well, as long as we're dreaming.... here's one for sale in Barrington, RI, which is one of the best towns in the state.

I don't know all the house terminology but here goes.
i want a house with blue siding and a porch that wraps around the whole house. . . I want it to have LOTS of windows
the first floor will be 'great room' with a large living room/dining room area and a kitchen with an island and a sliding glass door that opens on to the back porch.
I want the basement to have room for a small work out area ( just a few machines ), a family/TV/play room and a HUGE laundry room.
THe upstairs will have 4 bedrooms and an office. The master bedroom will have its own bathroom with a LARGE tub and a separate glass shower.
LOTS of storage space in the attic
The driveway will be big enough for two cars. . .the backyard will have a grassy area and a cement area for children to play and a small pool
BUT my number one house dream is to have an outdoor full kitchen, it is under a covering so it doesn't get ruined but I want a full stove, BBQ etc. My mom made a ghetto one in our garage but I want a fancy one so I can do all my cooking OUTSIDE!!!

I have to honestly say i have my dream house now!
you have my dream house now too! is all the furniture in yet? I have dreams about your laundry room. . .
We cant afford it but sometimes I wish we could get an old house and totally gut it and design it totally the way we want it!!

I am so with you on this. when we had a summer house upstate as kids we had an outdoor fireplace stove that my grandfather built.... we used to boil the tomatoes to make sauce on this thing, it was hard core! ah, the good old days

Thanks Tilde! We are in the process of ordering the rest of our furniture and light fixtures, they are finishing up the deck and fence by next week! Pool is in, and all hooked up, its alot of fun i really enjoy it
I had a big disaster in my laundry room this morning, i had my detergent on top of the washer and it was on the high spin cycle, PS it crashed to the floor broke the top and detergent is all over the tile floor
I am still trying to clean it, its like impossible to get soap off the floor

Definitely a ranch, not huge (just enough for our family, gives me the creeps to be all alone in a huge house)
On the water
Wrap around or nice front porch
Nice sized yard
Somewhere probably down south- for warmer weather
Not too modern/harsh lines, but more country or quaint looking
PS- I love the look of HGTV's 'green home,' altho inside is probably bit more modern than Id like
like this ranch too
Ooh, and I loved the house from the movie 'Message in a Bottle' for those who have seen it, right on beach, loved the inside.

My dream house has 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a nice big kitchen, a big front porch and is on at least an acre of land. My FH wants a full basement and a seperate 3 car garage. We both like victorian style- either new or very old and totally redone.
