Where should we go on vacation?

I just decided that we need to get away this spring. No clue where so I was wondering if you guys had any ideas. WE need to relax but neither of us can handle more than a day of purely a pretty place - I need stuff to do!

We dont like to return to places we have already been so here is a list of has beens:

We are looking into a trip to Arizona. Phoenix/Scottsdale is supposed to have some of the lovliest resorts. Sedona is supposed to be beautiful and have wonderful hiking, horseback riding, etc. Flagstaff is very close to the Grand Canyon which from what people tell me has to be seen at least once in your life.

I think Flagstaff and Sedona are about an hour apart and Phoenix/Scottsdale is about 3- 4 hours from the two of them.

People that I know have been there have raved about it the trip and would go back there.

Or, what about Las Vegas??

Boston is actually on our list! And St. Thomas was the most beautiful place we went to on our HM cruise.

How about Costa Rica or Belize - TONS to do there and not terribly expensive.

Sedona, AZ. You'll love it. Prettiest place I've ever been. Very relaxing, but a lot to do. If you want more info, forum mail me.

How about Sweden? I haven't travled much but I went there for 2 weeks to visit relatives and I fell in love with it. Stockholm is beautiful - not exaclty a huge party place but lots to do and see. If you wanted to stay in the U.S. I really like Chicago. Lots to do and easy to get around.

another idea - Ireland. We were there over the summer and it was lovely. The west coast (Cliffs of Moher. etc.) is so romantic! And Dublin's a great city.

Wow, what a well travelled couple:
Depending on your budget, I would suggest going to Czech Republic. I was there on my spring break while studying in Europe, and spent 5 days in Prague and vicinity. That was just about enough, but for some people fewer days may work as well. It wasn't terribly expensive in 1998 (a nice dinner was around $6-10, I stayed in a hostel at the time), but I am not sure where the prices and airfares are now. You can also combine Prague, Vienna and Budapesht for a nice mini tour.

One of the places on my list would be Spain.

If you want an island of some sort I would suggest Costa Rica. We are looking into that for this spring with a group of friends.

Edited to add more of my places to visit:

Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia or Australia (but for both you need at least 2 weeks! IMO)

I also like shamma's Brazil suggestion but you got to see how things are before you go (economic conditions and everything else).

I'll ditto Arizona...but I am a little biased since DH is from there...

do you guys like golf? He is from a little town called Wickenburg...some areas are very expensive (i.e. Dan Quayle's family lives there)

but here is a site for a golf resort...and then you are also close to Phoenix/Sedona/etc...

the golf course is one of the best in the state...but rooms are a bit pricey...

but there are so many places like this in AZ...you could even go to a dude ranch :)

lisa - I know it's not an island (I knew someone would call me on that when I posted that) but I guess to me - it is that island feel but with stuff to do....not just a beach and pool place (which I love too)...like Mexico! (Boy do I sound ignorant as I type this hehe!) I know so many people who went and rave about it!!!

I would love to go to Europe/Asia but I think the airfare is going to kill our budget!

I know it sounds cheesy what about driving to Niagra Falls and then continue to Toronto...we did that and had so much fun and things ar a lot cheaper in Canada...Or what about Montreal

I don't know how true this is but a girl I work with just came back from Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore for 12 days and said in total (with spending money) spent less than $2,000 (one person). I was shocked! I would have expected so much more. She said there are a lot of deals on airfare right now. (She is originally from Thailand and goes often and said the prices are actually reasonable.)

DH has most of our research on Costa Rica but I know someone recently posted that they went there on their honeymoon.
