Re: Where should we go on vacation?
We went to San Diego in Nov 2000. The flight really wasn't worth it for a 5 day trip. I would recommend it for a week at least. We stayed with friends, and that was the main reason we went - to see themLots to do and see, and we rented a convertible and drove up to the wineries with the top down
We had five days there
- We went on the trolley trip one day, and could really have spent more time in Coronado.
- We went to the zoo - really cool, the baby bear was out. That afternoon we went to La Hoya
- FH went fishiing one day with his friend, and I went bikriding with his wife, in the beach area.... its famous, but I can't remember the name of it
-and one day at the wineries
oops I totally read that the wrong way
What about New Orleans?

We are going to Brazil's carnival and we are so excited. We are going to Bahir and Rio.Who said the economic conditions to be careful?? what does that mean, I would be more concerned with political violence

Re: Where should we go on vacation?
Here's a few suggestions, that are not on your list, but others may have said:Vancouver, BC and other parts of the Northwest like Portland and Seattle
Spain and Greece, South of France (Meditteranean)
Four Corners (AZ, MN, CO, UT)
Ireland/Scotland
Maybe a bit far, but how about Asia, Australia??

Re: Where should we go on vacation?
Hi Stef, wow-you're quite the globe-trotter! I love to travel (and to plan vacations), unfortunately job situations and $$$ usually keep my travel bug in check. If you could manage the airfare, I'd highly recommend a trip to Ireland. There's lots to do-from very metropolitan cities as well as beautiful countryside. There's a wide, wide range of accomodations there-you can stay in a bed n breakfast for very little $ or you can splurge and stay in a castle.
I spent a vacation out in Montana a few years ago, and would go back in a heartbeat. We stayed around the southwest part of the state, toured Yellowstone NP and the Grand Tetons.
Just a few ideas...
Happy planning!!

Re: Where should we go on vacation?
What about a cruise? You get to go to a bunch of places and there are plenty of things to do when you get off the boat.

Re: Where should we go on vacation?
That's kind of what I meant shamma - the economic conditions are a result of the political violence (for one). I just couldn't think of the right words when I was typing my post! DH and I considered Brazil for the honeymoon but he was scared of all the violence and stories you read about in the papers. I was like whatever but he was like no way! You are going to have a blast!!!

Re: Where should we go on vacation?
There is really tons to do in AZ...but very outdoorsy things...I would imagine a dude ranch would be interesting...thats probably what MIL house is like for me...horses and 4-wheelers...golf (you could learn...once people do...they love it)
then of corse Sedona is beautiful for hiking...not to mention the Grand Canyon...
what about skiing/snowboarding...you can get some great deals to CO or UT in the spring...
we went to Steamboat Springs CO one May and there was no snow...but there are so many things you can do...hiking...horseback riding...there are springs to go in (like Iceland)
would you consider a cross-country trip???
of course I am biased to La JOlla (if you didn't go when you were in San Diego) - my new town...
I would love to go to Belize and COsta Rica...rain forest...Belize has N America's only barrier reef
Spain is beautiful...but the flight is long and expensive
hmmm...still thinking...

Re: Where should we go on vacation?
What about Montreal & Quebec City. Both are beautiful places - a lot to see and do, historic, food is excellent and the exchange rate is EXCELLENT. A superbly inexpensive destination. We went in the summer during the Jazz Fest of Montreal - but it was a bit hot. I think spring is perfect weather there.http://www.quebecregion.com/
Also - didnt see London on your list. I loved London - we stayed at The White House near Regents Park. You can get great deals to London these days.

Re: Where should we go on vacation?
I've heard of Sedona also as a great spot for spa treatments and plenty of R&R.My next vacation (which of course I think is the greatest idea in the whole wide world) is to Alaska. We are taking a cruise from Vancouver (well thats Canada, not Alaska) to Seward. Our return flight is from Anchorage. I just did all the research, so if you are interested let me know.

Re: Where should we go on vacation?
We really want to go somewhere hot too in Feb.I think we are going to go back to Vegas. You can get really good packages.
It will cost us less than $1000 for a week in Vegas hotel/airfare.
It depends what you are willing to spend.

Re: Where should we go on vacation?
Stef, I also have to suggest Costa Rica. My hubby went there a few years ago and is STILL talking about it almost once a week. There is a TON to do there, and rates for the flight and hotel accomodations are very reasonable. If you want, I can find out the name of the resort he stayed at, he highly recommends it!!

Re: Where should we go on vacation?
Stef-Went to Costa Rica for our honeymoon. It was awesome. Rain forests, volcanos, hot springs, beaches.
Some recommendations:
Xandari (just outside San Jose) - great for your first or last night or both (close to the Int'l airport).
Tabacon Resorts - in Arenal (by the volcano). Awesome hot springs
Si como no - in manuel antonio (beach & rain forest)
Villa Calletas - also in Manuel Antonio
for a more adventurous trio - check out the Osa pennisula.
