My MOH paid for my shower.

(I know most of the time the mother pays for it but as far as true 'etiquette' is concerned, that is a no-no. )

My shower has about 25 guests...so I probably had 40 people invited.

In any case - its entirely up to you what sort of shower you throw her. It doesnt have to be a lavish catered affair, you could always throw a champange punch party at your house. Also, you could ask the rest of the bridal party to chip in.

I knew the financial burden fell on my MOH so I didnt ask her for anything. I knew she was going to throw me a shower but I thought it would be very casual at her house. I was shocked when I saw how much time and $$ she put in to it. It meant a lot to me.

My Mom paid for mine, although she wrote on the invitations given by Melissa (who is my siste and MOH)

Do I ask my friend for a list of the people she wants invited? I have no other way of knowing.
Or is that too obvious?

My MOH (sister) and BM's paid for my shower. it wa held at my sisters house. They catered the food and got a tent and decorated really nice.
It really depends on how close you are to the bride. When I had my sisters bridal shower I paid for almost all of it myself but I also was in a position to do it.
You can discuss this with the bridal party, Get ideas from them, ask them if they are willing to chip in.

as far as a list of people, ask her for a list of people she would want at her shower. All brides know they are getting a shower so it wont be a surprise that you are planning one. Or you can ask her FH for their guest list.

Nov - not really an answer to your question but I want to say that the stuff that really bowled me over at my shower were the little touches that I knew took a lot of time and effort on the part of my MOH. I mean, I was very happy that she was generious enough to pay for a nice place, etc... but knowing that she was up nights sowing the tableclothes and glueing hundreds of buttons to my wishing well was really what touched me.

So my point is - even if you cant spend a lot, you can do a lot of little things that show you care.

Thanks Stef! I plan on making sure that she is blown away by all the little things that go into the planning and decorations.
( I can't say too much because she may be a lurker on here.)

My MOH, BMs, Mom and Step Mom all split the shower... it just depends on everyone's circumstances.

Her mom passed away and she doesn't have any sisters.

My mom paid for mine. She wanted to have it at a special place and didnt want to burdon the girls with the expense.

I am the MOH for one of my best friends and myself and the 2 bridesmaids are all pitching in equally.

My mom and stepmom paid for the shower since they didn't want to ask the girls to do it. They felt the girls had their hands full (or pocket empty) from the gowns etc... for the wedding. But my two MOHs did the wishing well, one MOH (my sister) did the invites, and 4 girls total chipped in for my favors.

I think the details are the important part of the shower. You can have a simple party at your home. Did you speak to the BMs yet? Maybe everyone can make a dish and bring a detail.

For the weddiings I've been in, either the BP split it or the mother paid. For my wedding, my mom contributed but the bridal party split the costs.

I don't think the MOH needs to take on the full responsibility - it should be shared among the BP.

For my shower, and most showers that I am aware of, the bridal party split the cost. I think it is too much to have just the MOH pay for it. I would discuss it with the other girls in the bridal party.

MOH, it's her duty/responsiblity as the MOH.

My MOH and some of my bridal party paid for the shower.

I am going to a shower this wkd and the invitation leads me to think it is being hosted by the bride's mom.
