Why Do You Want Kids?

Why Do You Want Kids?

In the past, I have always been the person that said they would never have kids; I would have 15 dogs before having a child.

But now I have been thinking about it more, especially with the pregnancies of friends of mine. I always knew the reasons why I didn't want to have kids, but now I can't seem to put into words why I might.

So I know it could be a personal question and difficult to answer, but any guidance is appreciated.

I am hoping it will come to me or just hit me out of the blu

I think I am just too selfish for the moment and I think about the amount of responsibilities involved. - it Scares the piss out of me.

I say if you feel it right now GO WITH YOUR GUT That is wonderful news

Hmmm what an interesting question... I'd have to say it seems like a 'natural' extension of DH & I's relationship now? That's not to say that choosing 'no kids' isn't natural - it definitely is for many couples, and that's AOK.
I feel like I love the guy so much and I'm filled with curiousity about what his little offspring will be like; coupled with the fact that we're finally kind of 'settled in' with each other, and want to move on to the next phase. I feel like I have so much love in my heart and a baby is just the right place to direct it right now (finally).
G*d that sounds really queer, cut me some slack, i'm PG with

Also, I hear they are very handy for

--bringing daddy a beer after a tough day at work
--and providing excellent care to their mamas when they become doting old fools.

I have wanted to be a mommy since I was 15 years old. I was going to be a kindergarden teacher, but I didn't have the grades.

I have a great skill with children, they LOVE me. It sounds silly - but it's true. My close friends have called me the baby whisperer...their children are 'difficult' or 'don't like everyone', but they always warm to me right away...

I am so crazy in love with Dave that I cannot wait to have a child with him. We are trying now and are both so excited to see a small version of the two of us.

We want kids because we have really strong family values and we cant wait to be able to share them with our children, and enjoy the entire process while doing it. It seems natural for us to have children, event hough were not having kids for a few years, i cant wait to be a mom.

wow, i feel the same way. I think I am way too selfish to have kids and we are so used to our routines... and even though I don't really want an only child because i love have 3 sisters, I really don't think I can handle more than one.

We're waiting at least two years, until I'm done with B-school, before we even think about a kid. I love all my nieces and nephews, but I'm definitely not ready to have my own and also hope one day it'll just hit me (and DH, he's petrified!).

Hard to explain....

but a few thoughts:

1. i think it is an extension of the love DH and I have together
2. we loo forward to passing on our religion and culture to our children so that they grow up with those values and experiences
3. Chidlren bring so much joy and love to life--- i look forward to experiencing that with my own children one day
4. it's just natural---don't know how else to say it, but this is how life continues...

Kind of like Jess said above, I love kids so much and I am so in love w/ DH that i could never imagine not trying to have a child with him. Bringing a child/children into the world would be such a huge blessing from the Lord!!!!!! Family is the most important thing to me, aside from the big guy upstairs!

Re: Why Do You Want Kids?

This is an interesting topic. Im also with the girls who are not ready. I love kids. My niece is my life and I enjoy watching her grow up but as for myself, Im still so selfish and still havent reached all my goals in life. I also want to be able to provide for my child and not have to struggle so thats another reason I cant see myself having kids right now.

i don't think anyone can be 'ready' per say.. when it happens, you will get yourself ready.. but ás much as i love kids, not right now and not for a few years.. this is DH and me time.. as selfish as it may sound..

I don't remember a time when I didn't want them. I love kids, love being around them, love watching them grow and play and learn. And I can't wait to share the love that DH and I have with this amazing child that we create. The sooner the better too.
