why is changing your name so damned hard?

it should be easy and free .... i'm so annoyed that i need to spend close to $500 (thanks to not being a natural born citizen) and so much time (not to mention the fact i'll prob need a day off from work) to get this crapola done. i don't understand why they can't just make it simple!

I feel you. I had no problem getting everything but my marriage license says I was born in NY and I was born out of the country. It's such a hassle to fix it but i'm afraid I'll have a prob. when I go get my new passport.
