Worried & sad - need advice - UPDATE

DH works for an airline. We have our trip to Jamaica booked for August. We purposely splurged and booked a Couples resort b/c we thought we'd be flying for free and thus saving hundreds of dollars. Well, things aren't going so well for DH at his job, as I have posted about before. We both think they are out to get him, so to speak, and are worried they are just itching to fire him. If we do book our free flights, what if they then decide to fire him like a day or 2 before we leave for our vacation?! We would be totally screwed!!! I asked our TA to keep her eyes out for cheap (HA) flights to Jamaica but I am not counting on that.

I don't know if we should attempt to book the free flights and risk being screwed out of them? Or should we just pay for the flights and use another airline? Or, should we cancel the whole Jamaica thing and go elsewhere and pay for the flights?! UCK!!! I absolutely hate this! DH is miserable but he refuses to quit b/c it'd give them too much satisfaction.

Advice, ladies?

I would try to price it without banking on the free flights and see if you can swing that. If not, maybe you can do a cheaper alternative vacation? OR you can book everything with travel insurance and that way if you need to cancel last minute because the flights fell through then you can reschedule a different trip at a different point in time. Sorry they're being such buttwhores

so you get free airfare b/c of where he works right?? So if you booked a flight, and then they firedh im, you should still be able to go on your trip. I think that would be stupid of them to cancel your flight b/c he would no longer work for them.

LOL no, they wouldnt cancel our flight but they would not let us fly for free anymore if they fired him, obviously. The whole reason we splurged on the Couples resort was B/C of the free flight.

I think I would plan on having the money for the flight, b/c at least if it doesn't work out you know you will have it. IF you don't have the money for it, then I think a cheaper alternative would be a better idea.

If I were you - I would rebook the trip to a cheaper place and NOT count on the free flights. Book your own flights and do not get the free ones through the airline. It is not worth the trouble. I just am too much of a worrier and I could NOT go the next 3 months not knowing.

So sorry this has become such an issue!!!!

I am SURE they'd find some way to get the money from us. They'd prob red flag our names and when we went to check in, we'd be nabbed LOL! I don't trust these people as far as I could throw them!

I think you will be better off and stress free, if you don't book through them then.

You can just give me your money, and stay in my extra bedroom for a week lol I will make you yummy foods, and I will serve you cupcakes whenever you wanted them!

Unfortunately, I wouldn't count on the free flights. You've got a few months before you go away and who knows what could happen before then.

Call a TA and see if they can get you some sort of deal. Also try Expedia, etc. and see what deals are happening.

Yeah, we are using Dawn from Cruise One. She is a vendor on here and we used her for our HM, also. She's working on things for us. The whole thing is just SO frustrating, plus its killing me to see DH so unhappy all the time! We need this vacation like NOW!

I'm actually really excited!!! The original price that our TA had quoted us for a week at the Couples resort WITHOUT the airfare was around $2900. On a whim, I went onto the Couples website and started messing around. They have some new promo thing going on, and it was telling me that WITH airfare, the total would've only been $3200! I asked my TA if she could get that deal for us, b/c ideally I'd like to book with her, but if she couldn't get it for us I'd just book thru Couples. She just emailed me back and said it's a go!

I am SO excited! I think we're getting a pretty good deal! And now we don't have to worry about if DH's stupid job screws us over or not!

which couples resorts are you going to? we did couples on our HM. i can honestly tell you that you will be BLOWN AWAY by the amazing service of the staff at Couples -- as well as all the things that are included in your stay.

I really, really want to go on a caribbean vacation. Like, just once. Too bad DH hates the heat and sand

I am not terribly fond of sweltering hot weather either - but beach vacations are good because you are by the beach, there's a breeze, and you can go in the water. DH hates the ocean, hates pools -- won't even wear shorts. I'll have to plan a short vaca to the bahamas or something with my sister - whenever we both have the $ and time to take off. Which isn't anytime soon.
