Last year was my aunts 75th birthday. She's like a grandmother to us, and my sisters and I decided we wanted to through her a big party. As a courtesy, we ran the idea by her daughter who shot us down saying SHE wanted to be the one to throw a party (this was after she had already said she wasn't having a party, but whatever...)
Anyway, she sends out an email to the extended family saying a party will follow. Well, we're still waiting and my aunt is now 76. I'm P I S S E D. Not only because she stopped us from having the party, but my aunt deserved this and didn't get it. Now what? we wait until 80? What if (god forbid) she doesn't make 80...
The moral of my (long) story, I think you should have SOMETHING for her 70th. Its doesn't need to be a big bash - a smaller GTG would be lovely. You can get a private room and play music for a special dance or two.

Give the poor woman a party! That is so sad, that shes never had a party in her honor. Give her something, dancing included, if that makes her happy. Everyone deserves a party!

I agree I think you should have one for her! Esp if it has already been mentioned to other people What about a sunday brunch?? there are alot of restaurants that have space for a dj and a dance floor Even a KOC maybe?

A party would be nice, it doesn't have to be huge. We gave my mom a small 60 b-day party at La Grange in Babylon (I think). They have a back room, it was Friday night and they have a dance floor and a band on the weekends. So you could stay and hang out and she could dance.

I think a small gathering of family would be fine. Otherwise, have you looked into just renting a hall or KOC type of place? Then you could have a catered buffet and a DJ. Yes, it would be less fancy than your husband's b-day party, but who cares?! It's the thought that counts.

Why not turn the surprise on her and make the party for both of them?

different year.
He turns 30 in November 2005.
She turns 70 in November 2006.
But, wouldn't a combo have been great? I already thought of it.

i agree i think you should have something as well. you can do something a firehouse or koc and do a dj and it would run far less then a restaurant or hall.

I agree. My Mom's 70th was 3 months before my wedding and we just couldn't do a huge thing. We ended up have a family GTG at my Aunt's and surprised my Mom with 5 of her best friends. She was thrilled!
