I wouldn't say anything. I mean, she's paying for most of it and she's the one your friend kinda put 'in charge' then what she says pretty much goes.

I would try and mention like 'Hey, Friend said she really loved this at my shower maybe we could do something similar but do it this way.' What I'd really WANT to say is to MOB is 'Do you think your daughter will like it or do you want it because YOU like it?' but that causes !

I think this might be the safest way to approach the situation if you say anything at all. Shower drama is the WORST - I had seen my fair share of it when we had one for my SIL and everyone ended up unhappy, MOB, BM's and the bride...
