Re: 04 Brides
Licia I spoke with Laura from LA Productions who is such a sweetheart. She would do the stds exactly the way I want it. So if I can't handle it, I will probably go with her especially since she does amazing work.

Re: 04 Brides
I dont know who we are using as a florist. There are actually 3 florists right here in our neighborhood. One is around the corner, a second is about 3 blocks from us and a 3rd is a little drive. We figure we'll check them out since they are local and I have a list of a few other florists I want to talk to and get prices. I know the types of flowers I want and how many I need of things. I figure the same as Nylisa, I'll go in September of next year and book the florist

Re: 04 Brides
Chippatrid I have a couple of florists right by my house too that have been there for YEARS! I know they would be cheaper but hmmm ya think its safe to go to a non-wedding florist? I was going back and forth on this.

I am also going to do feather centerpieces. I am wondering now who would be less expensive for the bo-ks and bouts. That is all I really need flowers wise. I wouldn't need to decorate the church since it is already for Lent. CB is decorated enough and I wouldn't want to take away from that.

Re: 04 Brides
CW: Its a hard call. Its one of those the florist has been around for years so if its around so long they must be doing something right. On the one hand its not exactly a 'wedding' florist so you know the prices wont jump because the word wedding is in the price. On the flip side, its not a specialized in weddings so can they handle doing such a job. But you dont know until you ask. Ask to see pictures of there work, get references, what types of arrangements have they done, etc.. Since they are local florists I figure people in the neighborhood would know the florists or would have used the florists, so ask some neighbors about the local florist.
Pedastals florist is located in Mineola, but there is also one in Howard Beach and thats about 20 minutes from my house. Another florist I am thinking of checking out.
The one florist that is a little drive deals with weddings, funerals and basically all floral needs as well as gift baskets.
You just gotta ask and do your homework. I am not going overboard on flowers and I know what I need and I want a florist to be reasonable and also be able to accomadate my needs and also do a good job.

Re: 04 Brides
Chippatrid I hear what you are saying. I will have to stop in and see what they say. I will start the research in January and see florists then and February. Hopefully by then I will be able to see the floriststs I am interested in.

Re: 04 Brides
Thansk cw! I'm also waiting until 1 year from the wedding to book the flowers. But now I'm getting nervous that I should book my hair & makeup. My problem is my wedding is called for very VERY early on a Sunday morning, which means I need to have makeup & hair done at like 6AM or 5:30 AM on a Sunday. I probably will have to pay extra to do this. I will probably check out Maximus. Anyone have any other recommendations?

Re: 04 Brides
The florist I want to use is my local florist (right around the corner from my house). They do beautiful work and I know alot of brides who have used them from their wedding. If you are going with a local florist, just ask questions and see pictures like Chipp said.

Re: 04 Brides
Marcella, she is in Middle Village...I know her beacuse her nephew went to elementary school with my sister...she did our makeup for my sister's wedding...she was great. I usually wear makeup everyday so I wanted my eyes to really show up...where as my sister harldy wears any makeup...she did exactly what we wanted...my sister looked natural where I had an evening look going (no I didn't loook like a clown) it was very tasteful She is even looking into aribrushing for me. She works in Bloomongdale's in NYC at (I think) Estaee Lauder.
