Re: 04 Brides
I just couldn't let us fall to the 2nd page!! To answer some questions: My FI and I can do pre cana whenever we want. So we'll do it some time next year.
We don't know where we will live yet once we're married I guess we need to see what our best option would be.
Still haven't booked anything else yet, but soon!!

Re: 04 Brides
Oh wow Angela! Thanks for the info. The priest at the church that we're getting married at told us he did not believe in the Pre Cana that Catholics do and that we did not have to do anything like that. But the priest that performed the engagement ceremony said that he would like us to go to his Church (in Brooklyn) and do pre marital counseling with him. We want the priest who performed our engagement ceremony to also marry us because he's a long time friend of the family and because he speaks Spanish (my family is from Uruguay). My grandparents won't be able to understand otherwise.
As for living arrangements, Peter and I are going to buy my house. Currently I live with my grandparents and mom in a 2 family home. My mom wants to move out and do her thing, but my grandparents want to stay. Since my grandparents are retired and do not have a high monthly income, my mom and grandparents are giving us a discounted price on the house and my grandparents will be living on the first floor apartment and we will be living on the second floor apartment. We're really happy because otherwise we would not be able to afford a house. I live in Bayside and the houses here are going for 600k and up. It's ridiculous!!!!!

Re: 04 Brides
Oh no! We were falling to the bottom of page1!!! Hi ladies! And happy Monday to all of you. We do not have to do Pre cana becuase we are Jewish, I think we meet with the rabbi once or twice. As for living arrangements, I currently, own the home I grew up in, both my mom and dad have passed away, so it is bittersweet to own this house. I love the house, I do not like the way I got it . We are currently living in the downstairs apt, while I am trying to clean out upstairs. It is so hard to empty 30 years of my mom and dads stuff. And I do not want Fh doing it becuase he does not know what to get rid of. My mom died almost 9 years ago, and my dad last year, the reason I did not do too much last year is that I was so devastated to have lost my last parent, I could not bring myself to throw out too much. I plan on putting up new pictures, painting etc. Not much else going on in the planning, just sitting back and relaxing until after the holidyas. I am having trouble picking out a veil. I do not know if I want to get a tiara or a traditional veil.

Re: 04 Brides
Good morning girlies...wow page 20...i've missed so much. Well to answer a few questions: I already have an apartment that we are going to live in...my parents own the house so we are going to live there until we save enough to buy a house. I am going to start pre cana in the spring I want to wear my hair like this b/c this is my tiara
We are going to live in FH's parents basement for a couple of years. Its a full finished basement which is great. We have our own kitchen and bath so we will have more privacy. My dad will be retiring in a four years so maybe he will sell us their house. I LOVE my house. I know he won't sell it to just anyone b/c he practically built that house from scratch. Its amazing how you can get attached to something that doesn't have emotions but brings back so many memories... Since its me and my sis he will probably be fair and say its for both of you.

Re: 04 Brides
I missed alot too for not being on for the whole weekend.
Anyway, Chippa and I both are getting married on the same date & are having our reception at the same place (Manor East). Marcela, Chippa & I are both having alot of food.
My FH & I are going to make our cocktail hour (trying to make the whole thing but will at least make the second 1/2 hour). Our church is at 2 p.m., the Manor East is about an hour from the church and we are having a pre-cocktail hour starting at 5:30 p.m.
I have short hair so I am going to keep it down.
With regards to pre-cana, we were going to do it next year but now my pastor is leaving so I have to wait for the new pastor to arrive before we set up the appointment to start it.

Yea Page 20!!!
Pre-Cana: We're probably going to do Pre Cana next year. We can do it in any church. My church gave us this little book with all the churches in Brooklyn and Queens and when they hold Pre-Cana.
We're looking to do this on one Satruday sometime next year.
Living after wedding: We bought land in Florida this year and we are hoping to build our house either next year or in 2004. We have to see how things go. But we definatly plan on being in FL. It would be great if we are able to start building next year but if not then 2004. FI wants to be in the house before the wedding.

Re: 04 Brides
That's great Marcela...You are very lucky! My FH and I both live at home with our parents so we are going to start house hunting sometime after our e-party. We've been looking around and I can't believe how expensive the prices of homes are!! But I am trying to be optimistic and hopefully we will find something.

Re: 04 Brides
Homes are expensive!! If FH's folks didn't have a full finished basement, we would be renting and it would take us twice as long to buy a home. Its ridiculous! Hopefully the market plateaus.

Re: 04 Brides
Yeah I totally agree! Rents are ridiciulous. Before we made this deal with my mom and grandparents we were going to rent Peter's parent's downstairs apartment to save money to buy a house. If we would've rented on our own, it would have taken us forever to buy a house!

Re: 04 Brides
homes are VERY expensive in NY. How does anyone expect married couples to be homeowners when houses are so expensive? This is why we are building our house in FL. Its less expensive then NY. The cost of living is much cheaper. The house we want is almost like a mansion, 15 foot rooms, cathedral ceilings and all appliances included and believe me when you hear the price you'll fall off your chair. (If you want info about our builder, prices and the house FM me and I'll be bappy to give full details)
Houses in NY are so expensive.
Our friends in FL bought there house with no money down and no money at closing. Sounds too good to be true, but they have been down there over a year and have wonderful things to say about there house and the builders.

Re: 04 Brides
Melissa: I would love to move to Florida for that reason. We went to FL last week for a wedding and it's such a difference. All the houses are NEW and beautiful. In New York, you'll pay double or triple for a house that's 50-80 years old. But there's no way we'll ever be able to move because FH job market is here or in CA (LA). And CA cost of living is the same or maybe even more than NY.

Re: 04 Brides
Marcela thats what sold us. We went in February to visit our friends and they took us to model houses and we fell in absolute love with one house. I am a die hard New Yorker and one day in FL and that was it, I was ready to come home and start packing. We loved Florida so much that we went the next day and bought land after seeing the model house. The land was even inexpensive. I also did a check and the price of our land has gone up so we bought it at a great time.
We went back in September and I didnt want to leave. I love it there. I cant wait to be living there. Everyday FI and I say one more year and we hope to be in FL. The area we are going to is geared for newlyweds, families just starting, young couples looking to own there first home, things like that.

Re: 04 Brides
What is holiday shopping? I feel like the grinch lately! So much has been going on I haven't thought of anyone else but FH and I and this wedding. I am taking off Wednesday so hopefully I will cover everyone then in one big sweep. I am trying to avoid shopping this weekend. It will be a disaster!

Re: 04 Brides
Marcela: Northport. Its about 30 min south of Sarasota. The airport we would use is Fort Myers. That is about 45 minutes from where we will be.
