05 Newlyweds and Brides that already had their shower - registry question

Was there anything you put on your registry that you thought no one was going to buy and were surprised that someone bought it?

Kim,
A few things:

a leather and suede magazine holder from Crate and Barrell - a sixty dollar thing that was not a neccesity, but it was one of the first things purchased (and it came with two magazine subscriptions!)

Our ridiculously expensive Wustoff knives - both the block, set, and steak knives were purchased by family.

A $90 decorative mirror.

- generally, i found that alot of the fun, decorative things went quickly, which surprised me. I understand it though, people like to give 'fun' gifts. We didn't get alot of what we need though, like sheets and towels and bedding. If you are desperate for the neccesities, I would leave off alot of the fun splurgy things.

BUT on another note alot of the 'normal' things I thought I would get that I didnt ( every day glasses, iron, bedding etc)
( although I did find out later alot of people tried to get my bedding but it was never in stock)

I think alot of it really depends on your families also. I noticed that my family got alot of the more 'useful' practical gifts while DH's side got all of the 'fancy' decorative gifts.

At my SIL's shower last weekend she got about 100 bowls, vases and picture frames but didnt get any of the stuff she actually needed... pots and pans, corning ware, everyday glasses, etc.

I didn't expect to get my china but I pretty much got 60% of it. I figure I may get the rest at the wedding.

There were also some things we scanned and after we got the print out we realized that they were too pricey. I wanted to take those items off the registry but I forgot. It's funny because we got all of those items which was great. Our registry consultant told us to scan evertything we wanted, its a wish list and you never know what people will get you. She was right and I was excited to get those items. I tried to pick items that I liked and that I felt were affordable to people.

Yes, I put an outdoor cafe set (sm. iron table & 2 chairs) on the registry because I loved it and my MOH said I should put it there cause you never know. Guess what? 3 of my co-workers chipped in and got it for me!

Honestly,

Everyone bought the useless stuff on there first. As a joke I registered for an ice-cream maker, smores maker, etc. because I was told I didn't have enough $25 and $50 items. I never really wanted these things. All I've ever really wanted was my crystal ($25) a glass from Fortunoff's. Well, people were complaining about not living near Fortunoff's so I said fine...

I registered for a whole bunch of stuff at BB&B, returned what I didn't want and now have almost enough cash to buy my crystal.

Only two of my friends bought me any glasses.

I didnt expect to get my full set of Caphlon pots and pans but I did. Also almost every cooking thing that that I registered for was bought. I was like are you trying to tell me something!! LOL

I don't know that I didn't expect to get the things on my registry, it's more that I expected some things as group gifts and single people gave me (extremely generous single people!)

I got my vacuum from my FMIL
I got ALL of my bedding from my my brother's fiance, which cost a ton (THANKS SARAH!!!)

I also got ALL of my towels (and I had over $300 worth of towels on my registry) from my MOH and one of my BMs.

You'll be surprised how generous people are...especially after we also had an e-party and got our entire registry for that 1 year before.

I got alot of practical gifts and some decorative items, some people did spend alot more than I expected. I think its good to have a variety on your registry.

The item I least expected was a suitcase, my friend had it shipped to my house!

Interesting how a lot of you ladies say that people bought you your decorative stuff first. The one decorative bowl that we registered for was bought. I think the only other thing on there like that is a nice wall clock. Other than that, we kept it pretty practical. No crystal or china.

We were kind of surprised by a few things on our registry. First, all of our Lenox china was bought but not one of our towels or bed linens!!

All of our electronics-type items went in a flash (crock pot, waffle maker, iron)...

All of our waterford wine glasses were bought but not one of the waterford goblets (beverage glasses) that are good for putting water or non-wine liquids in.

Still, we got most of what we asked for, and will purchase whatever else we need, like those goblets with some of our wedding money.
