1 or 2 Photographers???

Original post by MayDay2010

Hi, I was wondering if 1 photographer would be enough for a wedding of about 150 people? Or should I go with 2? What are most people doing 1 or 2? Thanks.

Definitely 2!
Even if one is just a back up -- you need someone to capture not only you and the groom, but also the guests.
You want every moment to be caught on camera, and one person cannot possibly do that.
I had a wedding of 150, and had 2 photographers and 2 videographers.

I'm having around 175 people and I'm having 2 photogs...one is to take photojournalistic pics. Also, I know I will get more pics from different perspectives and different places/people

We are having 2 the main photog and the asst. who also takes pics. It's the only way they do it-it wasn't an option. I like it because they can cover us from 2 different angles esp during the ceremony.

I have heard that if you have over 175, they reccomend 2.

We're having one regular photographer but then we do also have one through the DJ for the zap shots, so I guess that's 2 then!

we are having two but that is mainly due to the fact that the company we went with only works that way. though, i really have grown to appreciate it because i like the idea of each of us (me and fh) having a photog with us before the ceremony. i also have a large family and like that both photogs can be taking pictures of different groups simultaneously.

You should have 1 photographer and 1 assistant who will do the photojournalist pics - the empty room, close up of rings,e tc.

Most of the photographers we looked at said that anything under 200 people is okay with 1 photographer. We're having a big wedding so we'll be getting 2 because of that. With one, you may miss some shots such as the groom's face when you walk down the aisle (b/c the photographer will be on you - the second one will typically get that shot). You may want to see if your photographer can get you a second one for an hourly rate, where you'd just pay the second for the hour during the ceremony.
