Please tell me the difference.. even though i heard both are great.
I am not looking to spend thousands of dollars of pics, I don't need parents albums just options of printing some larger portraits for special family members, ty cards, B/G album... pretty simple stuff.
Video... i don't need a whole movie production.. something nice.
Thanks.... hope to hear some good points about both.... I am off to work!!!

Re: 12th Night vs. Duet
FH and I checked them both out and booked Duet, but it was a very close call. Dom at 12th Night runs his own business, as does Eric at Duet (it's a family business, and Eric is one of the videographers; I think he trains all his photographers) and I've generally found people do a better job when they work for themselves. So, that's one similarity. 12th Night does not do video, but they have someone they recommend. Dom would be your photographer and if you want a second, he can arrange that for you too as he has people he uses regularly for this. Dom's been a wedding photographer for a long time and he really seemed to know his stuff - we enjoyed talking to him, and were impressed by both him and Duet. Duet seems to offer more in the way of packages, but they might do just photo also, without albums and extras. Both guys are really up on technology, which is nice - Dom gives you your proofs, full size on DVD. And both are really nice people too. If I were you, I'd check them both out - that's the only way you'll really know. FH and I thought their work was comparable and went with Duet because we wanted a package and it just seemed easier for us to go that way, but it was a difficult decision for us because we really liked them both.

I agree with the above poster. I think there was a difference in price too.

So who is more expensive?

Re: 12th Night vs. Duet
I found Duet to be way more expensive because of their 'package'.
I booked 12th night cause I planned on doing all the albums myself and I wanted original proofs/digital files to do my own photo printing and enlarging.
I paid just under $1200 for 12th Night and they took 750 pictures. And I had a very small wedding. Very pleased.
Duet was just too expensive with their 3000+ package IMO.

I will definetly look into both but I it seems like 12h Night might be in my price range.

You can't go wrong with 12th night when it comes to price vs. quality.

Well thats what I am talking about. You get a lot of bang for your buck with 12th night. My package was for 8 hours.

I agree completely! I had 16 hour coverage and paid a little over $2100 and I had two photographers (one for 10 hours and one {which happened to be Dominic} for 6 hours). You really can't beat their prices and quality of work.
Duet was a lot more affordable last year (and previous to that even more so) but now they charge about the same as others, so it's not a 'big savings' motivator anymore.

I think it depends what your looking for? I really wanted a digital album. Duet's basic package gives you a 60 picture digital album.

Re: 12th Night vs. Duet
I booked Duet, b/c I don't want to be bothered making my own Albumns. If I got the Album from 12th it would be about the same for what we wanted. If you don't want big albums or will do them yourselves (and you say you dont need parent ones) I would go w/12th night.

Re: 12th Night vs. Duet
We met with both and ended up booking 12th Night. Their pricing and philosophy seemed much more in line with what we were looking for - less emphasis on albums, more on taking lots of pictures (digital). Feel free to FM for more details.

YES! Since its digital they take TONS of pictures. This was the dealbreaker for me and DW.
I only had 45 people at my wedding. You would think 'how many pictures can you take with just 45 people'.
They took 750! And its great cause I am working on the album right now and I already have 34 pages! By the time I am done... I will most likely have around 45. TONS of pictures to choose from!
And its not like each page is a picture. Most of my album pages have multiple pictures embedded in them?
See example below... this is a sample album page I am making... all pictures are 12th Night.

Re: 12th Night vs. Duet
I paid them about $1500 and had 2 photographers and am guaranteed at least 800 pics all on CD so I can do whatever I want with them like make an album.

Do you guys find it difficult to make the albums?

It depends on what kind of album you want. I am doing the same type of album you will get from the photographer. I am just doing all the grunt work myself (graphic layout, labwork, creative, etc.)
I also do computer work for a living so I technically have enough skill to do a decent layout.
But you can go to a place like Michaels and buy a nice blank album and just add your own pictures to it. It doesn't have to be something extravagant like I am doing.

Oh okay.. I guess i don't need anything fancy. So let me get this.... You get your proofs on Cd and then you can do the graphic layouts and then you take them and then get them printed out?

Well... you can do it either way.
If you are good with a program like Photoshop... you can do what I did above. Incorporate a bunch of pictures into a blank 8x10 page... or 16x20... or whatever you want.
When you save the finished photoshop file as a JPG file... you can send that file to any of the popular online printing places like Shutterfly or Kodak Ofoto.
I actually just used Mpix to get some sample 12x18 and 8x12 shots enlarged and I highly recommend them!
Here is another layout I did. The original large picture of Vanessa was a color one. I made everything black and white... EXCEPT for the roses which was a nice touch. And I have to credit Dom at 12th night for actually teaching me this trick!
If you don't have the technical knowledge of photoshop... just take the files Dom gives you at 12th Night... and you can take those files to those online places and print pics yourself. You can then take those pics and insert them into a blank album yourself.
