Just so all the Met Fanatics know, I just picked up the book about the 1986 Mets team...i read a portion of it in the Daily News and it looked really good...I cannot wait to read it.

Re: 1986 Mets book
Read the book...they were a real bunch of as*holes....halfway through already...can't put it down.
I still loved them though...there will never be a year like it again.

Re: 1986 Mets book
It really goes on about what was happening with those guys and who was real jerks on the team. The writer seems to say that Mookie was really the only good guy on the team (whole chapter dedicated to him). Gary was a clean living guy but loved the camera too much. The real bad ones were actually Sisk, Orosco and Heep. Straw and Gooden had there own issues (never realized this but Gooden missed the NYC parade because of a Coke hangover). Hernandez and a few of them were big drinkers....he also seems to praise Tim Teufeul a lot. Its really good and I recommend it to anyone who was a mets fan back then.

I am not surprised by any of this. I have an autographed copy of 'Nails' the book by Lenny Dykstra [who was one of the big drinkers and trouble makers, btw] and he gave some pretty sordid accounts of the team's activities off the field. But, I have to say...I do not think that 86 team was any different [behavior wise] than ANY successful sports teams. Money and fame breed bad things, IMO.

The book is called 'The Bad Guys Won' its out in all the book stores now......
Definetly get it...
I think being in NY made them even wilder then most teams are!
