we're having an outdoor cermemony in the summer and i don't want to be all squinty in the blaring sun for pics, but i'm worried that everyone will leave our reception early if we push it back this late. feedback?

I dont think it's too late. You have to figure it this way, it's one day. One day that old people might have to stay up past their bed time. Also, it's not like it starts at 8:00am so no one should be absolutely exhausted. I think you can't please everyone anyway so you might as well make yourself happy.

Ours is ending at 1am so I am biased. We are having our wedding on a Saturday night - it's a party - 1am is fine! : )
we ended at 1am...it was fine. some people left early but not too many. I think people will leave early no matter what time it ends. So par-tay on!!

I voted yes. I think a lot of the older people will start cutting out early (not just the elderly, but some of the older folks who really don't get out much anymore)

7-730 ceremony 730-9 cocktail hour 9-1 reception

we left early when it was this late... we also had to drive home from the reception (no accommodations near by... something to consider if you don't have a place for your guests to stay)... also, if you are planning an after party this might be too late to do that, people may be too tired! we don't want our reception to be over after the 5hrs at the catering hall so we are having an after party!

i think it depends. SOme people will stay late no matter what. DH and i have gone to weddings in suffolk county and further out in suffolk and we live in queens. We have stayed until the very end, if its a friday or saturday then we'll definitely do this. For a fri or sat to go home at 1am is not bad at all, i mean when ppl go to clubs and bars they drive home even later than that. But we even attended a wedding last year in suffolk county that ended around 12:30am and it was a sunday and we both had work the next day and stayed until the end.
yes some might go home earlier but to tell you the truth, ive been to weddings that didnt end late and you STILL have ppl who leave early. If lets say 20%-30% of your guests leave early you'll still have a decent amount left and will still have a great time. Hey if at the end of the night youre left on the dancefloor with your bp, closest friends and close families, it will still be an amazing night. At my friends wedding last week, the last few songs were just the bp and a few close friends dancing and honestly that was the most fun we did have.

mine ends at 1 am too... my whole thought is if they leave early oh well! Im not gonna let that get me upset or changing times.... the people who really matter to you will stay no matter what!

I don't think 1 is too late...but I wouldn't go later than that.
When we were looking at RHs, we decided against the VYC because with it's hour and a half CH and a Viennese, we would end at 1:30. 7:00-1:30 seemed really long. I think 1 is a good cutoff, the people who want to stay will stay, and if a few people leave, it's fine, you probably won't even notice.

our wedding was supposed to end at 11:30, but it ended up going til after one and everyone stayed until they literally took down the tables around us. i don't think it's too late as long as it's not a sunday or weekday evening.
