I went to dress shop yesterday and they told me 4 weeks before the wedding? What has been everyone else's experience? I thought it was supposed to be sooner than that!

I believe one month is correct. You want is as close as possible as the day!

I would like to know this too. I don't want to get it done too early but if you wait until 4 weeks before what if something goes wrong, there is no time to fix it?????

Re: 1st dress fitting - How soon before the wedding?
I think most places say brides usually have 2 fittings - I think 4 weeks is too close for the 1st one - maybe abotu 6 weeks before so they can fix anything that's wrong and then the last fitting closer to the wedding.

Re: 1st dress fitting - How soon before the wedding?
My wedding is April 4th and I went to my 1st fitting this past Tuesday. I go for my next one on Feb. 11th. I think 4 weeks is cutting it a litttle close, but that is just my opinion.

For me 4 weeks feels a bit close. My wedding is mid April and I just went for my first fitting. My second/last fitting is about 2 weeks before the wedding.

My wedding is May 17th. My first fitting is scheduled for 3/1 but it depends on your dress shop. Call them to be sure.

Re: 1st dress fitting - How soon before the wedding?
My first fitting was about 2 months before my wedding. And I had my second, which turned out to be my last since I didn't really need much except for the bustle, about a month before.
I think 2 months is about right. If you start to close to your wedding date and you wind up needing major alterations, then you will just get frazzled and upset.
I suggest that if you had to order your dress in a much bigger size to accomodate one part of your body, or if you plan on cutting the train or altering the neckline, then you should start earlier than one month before.

My first fitting was exactly one month before my wedding. And I had 2 more after that.

My 1st fitting was about 6 weeks before and I had about 4 fittings total. But it does depend on the bridal shop. Every place is diff. Good luck.

Re: 1st dress fitting - How soon before the wedding?
I was told 4-6 weeks before for your first fitting. I think it also depends on how many alterations you are expecting. I know that I don't have to have any length taken up, all of my alterations will be just nips and tucks so I will start 4 weeks before. You also have to think about weight loss, if you plan on losing weight before your wedding and you go too far in advance, you'll dress will be too big!
