2 e-party questions!

2 e-party questions!

Our e-party is Dec. 1, and I'm about to send the invites but I have two questions.

1. My theme is burgundy and gold Christmas. I found adorable personalized votive candles on Oriental Trading but they have blue and silver snowflakes? Get them anyway even if they don't match?

2. Should I include the registry cards we got from Bed Bath & Beyond in the invites or is that tacky? I don't really care either way, but if including the cards means avoiding people asking me where I'm registered or what I want, then I will do it.

Thanks gals

If the candles really dont match your color scheme I wouldnt get them... However if you really love them go for it!

If your registered it's not tacky to include the cards.

Happy Planning!

actually youre NOT supposed to put your registry cards with the invitation, this is a BIG no-no...the only time registry info goes into an invitation is for the bridal shower, and thats only bc someone else is throwing it for you and the purpose is to 'shower' the bride.

dont worry about too many ppl asking for registry info bc alot of ppl give cash

1. If you really like them you should get them...just wrap them to match the theme.

2. I only registered for a few things (only b/c some people asked if I was registering for the e-party). I told those who asked where I registered, usually when they called to RSVP. Not too many people asked about it though so it probably won't get too annoying to just tell them when asked.

I say if you really love them then get them!!!

If you want to register then why not! its your party! Sometimes people don't want to give money for everything and want to do something more personal! I dont think its a BIG no no I think its up to the bride and groom.

Thanks for the replies!! I am not goint to get the candles; I found an eBay seller that sells custom votives and even wraps them and it will cost less than $100 total

I am still undecided on the cards though

I didnt include the cards in mine because I wanted $$$$. We have had some people call and ask, so we told them. I feel like you'll get a lot of gifts if you add the cards to your invite. But if gifts are what you want then go for it!

Re: 2 e-party questions!

this has been asked a few times on the boards, and here if you want to see how ppl feel about this...i know someone who did this and EVERYONE couldn't believe she did it. This is just one of the threads...if you go to search and put in registry cards under brides helping brides forum youll see more...Etiquette states NOT to do this with anything but the bridal shower. Now etiquette rules are meant to be broken nowadays but this is one ppl still feel strongly about bc its asking for gifts...E-party is not an obligation for anybody to buy you a gift, putting registry info gives out the message that you expect a gift, also a hostess isn't supposed to do this herself.

Look at peoples responses in this thread, alot of ppl said they think its tacky and rude

I hear ya! I don't necessarily wants gives or $$$ in general, though if people bring it thats fine too, I just figured this would give people a heads up. I definitely don't want to appear greedy and offend someone

Ive never heard of putting the Registry info into there for an e-party..? Only for a bridal shower ive heard and seen that, for the E-party most people will give envelopes...........save the registry for the bridal shower invitations

Plus the e-party is to celebrate your engagment, not to get gifts....
the bridal shower on the other hand is to get gifts like a baby shower, its antinicpating your upcoming wedding or baby, so then its assumed people will be 'showering' you with gifts, as opposed to it being called a bridal 'party' or baby 'party'

Include the cards so your guests know where you are registered...that is not tacky at all!! As for the candles...I would try to find another kind that matches perfectly...if you can't find any then go for those.

i would not get the candles if they dont match and dont put the registry info in the engagment invitations.. just tell the people that do ask

I put my registry info in my e-party invites....I knew people would ask us what we wanted and we already live together so we have a lot so I thought it was easier...screw the 'rules' do what you want....no one complained to me about it!

I would NOT put the cards in with the invites -- I personally think it's tacky and they should only be included in a shower invite if at all.

A way to get around it is to make a wedding website and then link to your registries on there.

If you didn't send STDs yet you can put your wedding website on the STD and then put the STD in the envelope with the e-party invite (which is what we did). It's not as in-your-face, it still gets the registry info out to those who want it, and it puts your website out in a way that people will save.

An alternative if you don't want to do the STD thing or already sent them out is to make a wedding website and either put it on the bottom of the invite or print little squares that say 'check out our wedding website! www.whatever.com' and put THAT in with the invite.

nobody would complain to you...i know a girl who did it and everybody just said it behind her back...i agree rules are meant to be broken but honestly im just saying this bc people do find it inappropriate, and although rules are broken, not ones that we ASK for gifts, people find this rude...if you look at the link i posted and that was just ONE of many EVERY single person said it was either rude or tacky, this is one of the few rules ppl still follow. Its like hey come celebrate our love and while you're at it buy me a gift bc i expect it. I told the OP bc i understand when we first start planning things we dont realize alot of things at first and wouldn't want her guests to talk or say things behind her back.

ALSO i always am very generous with these things and seeing this would make me want to give less, but i always give money anyways but regardless that one thing would make me give less money

i totally agree...the engagement party isnt to get gifts, the purpose is to celebrate your engagement and upcoming wedding, its nice if people give gifts, but they dont have to.
