2 wedding rings

2 wedding rings

Here's the situation

My engagment is an emerald cut diamond, and the angle of the prongs for the setting doesn't allow for another ring ( a wedding band) to sit flush beside it. So I decided to look for a diamond wedding band, and wear the e-ring on my right hand.
We went looking yesterday, and I found a ring I really liked, right price, etc. and it is on hold for me....
As we were finishing up looking, I saw out of the corner my eye, another ring that has the baguettes like my e-ring, but a gap for the stone. Basically this ring will 'hug' my e-ring. I don't think I could ever wear this by itself.

Do I need both, do you think I would get use out of both?

Hi Helen!

I have two rings - one with channel set diamonds that sits 'flush' against my e-ring, and another plain gold band that I wanted for 'everyday' wear. I don't see any reason why you shouldn't get both if that's what you want.

Here's something to ask yourself:
After the wedding, do you picture yourself wearing your e-ring everyday? If not, than the first wedding band is practical b/c you can just wear that, even if you don't have your e-ring on.

If you really love the way your e-ring looks with the other band 'hugging' it, than you can get that one and wear it everyday or only on very dressy occasions. It really depends on your lifestyle I think.

For me, it's not practical to have two bands with stones b/c I'm keeping house and changing diapers all day long.

It's up to you. I got two wedding rings. One is an insert that matches my engagement ring perfect and the other is a plain gold band for wearing everyday or around the house.

Helen

I only got the eternity band and have now decided I need a plain band to wear sometimes. I don't know if you will get use out of 2 with stones. I do like the idea of wearing the one that hugs your e-ring for special occasions.

But if you can afford bith and you like them both then go for it.

Re: 2 wedding rings

Here's how I am rationalizing (sp?)

I don't love the 'hugging' one, but it is almost identical to the baguettes and the thingy that holds the baguettes in, and its really not expensive, but it will allow me to wear the 2 rings (e-ring and wedding ring) on one hand if I want.

If I had to pick one, I wouldn't pick it, bc then i'd be restricted.

The problem is that i don't know if I will wear the e-ring every day. We have pretty much agreed that we will get the 2 for me (yeah) and its great to see that others are doing the same. I guess I just wanted soemone to say - Go for it, besides myself

Jen

Thats the other thing, its not that expensive, and for those 'special' ocassions, I would like to have it. I told FH that there is a possibility I might only wear it 4 - 5 times a year, but jut for those instances I think I would like it

Re: 2 wedding rings

Call me a sentimental fool, but I don't see how one can have two wedding rings. One is the wedding ring, as it is the one your husband puts on your finger during the wedding. The other is just a ring to me.

That being said, I don't think there is any reason you have you wear your 'wedding ring' every day, and couldn't wear another ring on that finger at other times.

Perhaps my difference of opinion is purely semantics...

Helen - I say go girl and get what you want. If you don't love the hugging one, don't buy it.

I hadn't considered getting a plain gold band for around the house and the gym, but I like the idea. Often when I get home from work I take the e-ring off and then feel not only guilty but like I miss it. But I don't like to wear it while cooking and washing dishes. I'm terrified I will drop it down the drain. If that happens, FH will have a coronary.

Anyhoo, I know gold bands are not expensive -can anyone tell me what they ran, basically? And how much a simple platinum band would run as well?

PS - Helen, How's the penis hat? ROFL! I wanna borrow it for my bachelorette...LOL

Re: 2 wedding rings

I wear my wedding ring by itself anf my engagment ring by itself... becaue in order to have a band that fits it has to be custom made... So i have my grandmothers diamond wedding band that she gave me for my wedding and I wear that on special occasions...

Re: 2 wedding rings

Hey dub
If I were you, well you know how I like to spend money, LOL

I would get both. That way I have options. IF money were an issue, I'd probably get the hugging one first so I could wear them on the same hand, and the other one afterwards. BUt it's up to you. How important is wearing them on the same hand? TO me it's a must, but not everyone feels this way.

After the wedding, I'm getting a plain platinum band w/no diamonds just to have. So it all really depends on what YOU want. If you want both GO FOR IT.

Re: 2 wedding rings

I think, basesd on these ideas to get both. The diamond ring will be my wedding ring, and the 'Hugging' ring will be for special occasions when I want to wear both on one hand.

I was trying to decide which would be the 'wedding' ring, and now I know

thanks ladies

I am having two wedding bands...My diamond wedding band is beautiful...I can't wear it to do grocery shopping and stuff...So I will also have a plain white gold one...
I will get use out of both of them

Re: 2 wedding rings

I have 2. I have a diamond/platinum band I wear on one hand with the e-ring and a simple white gold wedding band I wear on my other hand. To me it was worth it because I can wear it no matter what..I am sure I won't want to wear my e-ring all the time (esp mine is high set and when I have kids I will scratch a baby with it). The simple ring was relatively cheap and like others I had both blessed so they were both part of my wedding day. The simple band also matches my DH's.

I say if you like both and can afford both get them but I wouldn't spend $ on a ring I was not crazy about!

Re: 2 wedding rings

Helen, Here's my .02 ...

I got 2 rings for the same reason. One WITH diamonds ... 5 stones across, that match up but DO NOT hug my e ring. I have pears on the side so the overall shape is like an oval (more like an eye, really). Unless I spent $$$$ on a custom made ring, I knew there'd be a space, but I don't mind it. I can wear both rings together, one on each hand OR

the plain white gold ... cost about $150 ... as opposed to $650 for plat. ... for the gym or pool or etc. times when I dont want to wear my good rings.

I had both rings blessed by the priest @ the wedding AND DH actually put both on my finger when we exchanged them ... there was a bit of a mix-up & the video will probably be hysterical, but ...

That's how I solved this dilemma.

Bottom line ... GET BOTH!!!

Re: 2 wedding rings

christmasbride-I had a slight mix up too and it was funny. Everyone in the church saw us giggling on the alter and no one knew why. Best man only went to give the priest one to bless. Priest saw two and questioned him..saying don't worry I won't steal it and we were all laughing. It was cute and memorable!

Re: 2 wedding rings

denise , mine was the opposite ... priest blessed both, then vinnie took the good one to put on my finger ... when we were finished, the priest looked a bit confused at the sight of an 'extra' ring on the plate, and tried to put it on my finger! we weren't sure what to do, so vinnie took my hand & finished putting it on for me!

Re: 2 wedding rings

I also have 2 wedings bands. One is a plain gold band that I wear on my left hand all the time, this is the one we used in the ceremony. I also have another band with a row of channel set diamonds that matches my e-ring. Sometimes I wear the diamond band with the e-ring on my right hand. or just the e-ring with the gold band on the left hand.
If you can afford it, I say get 2 so you have the option avialable to choose for everyday use and for dresy times.
