2010 crashing with bad news about limo's

Well, just heard the news.

Starting july 1st, 2009 limo's are subject to nys tax!

limo buses - NO TAX
long suv's - no tax!

so don't be surprised if your limo company contacts you!

they only heard about this in May, and it is not thier fault!

ALSO, know the law so you are NOT taken advantage of! If you have cars and suv's make sure you are not taxed on both!!!

I will get you more info when I have it!

:)

Yeah I found out about this when my limo company sent us our contract with the old balance whited out and a brand new one written in that included the tax.

By long SUV do you mean like a Cadillac Escalade limo?? Because that's the only car we have.

OF COURSE!!! I get the postage increase and the limo tax just in time.

We have a Rolls and an Navigator though, maybe the Navigator will be exempt?

BAH. I didn't officially sign the dotted line yet, but I would have been screwed either way with a December date. I'm not too bothered about it though, because most other vendors have tax anyways, and what's certain besides death and taxes right I don't think it's going to sway me in to the Excursion though just to save a few bucks in tax.

this tax is applicable even if you signed a contract. If that makes you feel any better.

Shuttles and cabs have the same tax. Not the limo companies fault, this one can be blamed on NY State.

If your contract includes a total price you should not have to pay additional tax. The limo company should honor the total cost and adjust their rate to total to the proper amount with tax. The idea of a contract is to provide you with a guaranteed rate for a service.

I completely agree... We were told that our price was including any taxes and tips (We had no idea that they didn't charge sales tax for limos before this). I feel like they should honor our original contract and not white out the original balance without even contacting us to inform us beforehand.

It is illegal for them to white out a contract -especially if you were not present. You should contact the attorney general's office and file a formal complaint.
