2011 bride crashing! Band Breaks - PLEASE Help!! (Repost from BHB)

One of the bands that FH and I are interested in take a 15 minute break when the main course is served, and besides that they take a 10 minute break every hour. They did indicate that they could have the keyboardist or guitarist play background music during the breaks so that there is not a break in live continuous music. Does this seem like a lot of breaks? How do I ask the band to take less breaks???? TIA!

The DJ's I met with (haha which was all of 3) didn't take any breaks. At least not that I noticed... and at least one DJ mentioned to me that they wouldn't be taking a break. I think the 15 minute break is OK but the 10 minute one every hour is not ok! That adds up to 40 to 50 minutes (depending on the length of the wedding).... then add on the 15 minute break... it appears they they are actually getting a full hour worth of breaks.

I just don't think I would book with them if I wasn't happy with that.

I used a DJ and not a band so I'm not sure exactly how it works but it does seem like a lot of breaks. On the other hand, it's different to be performing - I do think they need to have a rest every hour or so. Have you spoken with/met any other bands? How often do they take breaks?

One band that I spoke with said that they only take breaks during hot courses (we are only have 1 hot course) and when the entree orders are being taken. So compared to that band it seems like a lot of breaks.

Does anyone have any suggestions of how I should try to negotiate this with the band?

Our band doesn't take any breaks. They alternate during the meal with eachother, but there is always someone playing and singing throughout the entire reception. That seems like a lot of breaks!

this is why i didnt want to use a band. The last wedding i went to that used a band it fealt like they took a break after every 2 songs, i'd rather have a Dj play constant then a live band breaking every hour.... But its all personal choice
