I agree. I'm not going crazy with the cake... as long as it looks nice and tastes good. There'll be plenty of other things to eat too.

not alone....I hate cakes haha...I like homemade apple pie....I mean I want it to look pretty but it's not make or break.....
I wanted cupcakes but it was 2.00 EXTRA per person...I was like ohhh forget that I'm having a viennese hour my guests will get enough dessert there.

Re: 2K cake spinoff
i have to be honest---i'm with you Goldi--i didn't give two shiiites about my cake. don't get me wrong--i didn't want a big pile of poo at the cake table or anything.....but i didn't go nuts about what it looked like or anything.
kudos to those who are all about the cakes---but in the end i just didn't care much about having too much design or anything. our cake was decorated with flowers and it looked nice--but it was a simple 'swiss dots' whipped cream design. nothing too fancy. a lot of guests did compliment on the cake itself for being 'simple & elegant' but a lot of my family said they didn't even notice it cause they were too busy partying.

Re: 2K cake spinoff
in the beginning i could care less about the cake - now, i care a little more, but i definitely want to find that happy medium - where it looks nice and tastes even better. but i'm not even concerning myself with it until later this year - too many other things to deal with now!

My cake looked fine but it did not require much thought at all. It was about aesthetics for me:
wow that's gorgeous!

Re: 2K cake spinoff
I honestly didn't put toooo much thought into the cake... I found a bunch of pics of the cakes I liked, narrowed it down by taking out the ones FH hated (which was about 90%) and then just decided on a nice simple cake with some color and flowers to match out themes. Its probably the least important part of the planning for us.

I wasn't overly concerned about my cake either. I looked through some threads and saw a few I thought were pretty and I picked one....I wasn't a huge deal! But to each its own, everyone has their pet peeves! XOXOXO Kitty

I am totally a dessert person- so the cake is a big deal- not so much how it looks, i don't want anything nuts- just a basic white with a couple of flowers- but i want it to taste good! and I think I want a carrot cake- does anyone think its odd to have a carrot cake wedding cake? my mom thinks my fiance and i are nuts lol

Re: 2K cake spinoff
I LOVE to bake and have even catered some parties, so the cake is kinda important to me. I am not looking for anything extravagant, but I do want something that tastes good. Food and dessert are important to me and it would go against my nature to not pay attention to it.
As for 2K for a cake--if you have th money, that's one thing...but if you are paying that much just because it's from someone famous, then that's another thing. People have to remember though that sometimes just because it costs a lot doesn't mean it tastes good--it's usually because of where they got it from and the design and how much time was put into it.

Re: 2K cake spinoff
cake was the least of my concerns- I don't even remember what it tasted like- it looked pretty-nothing over the top- it was just a pretty cake- I didn't care much about it and didn't want to spend the extra $$ to upgrade the cake when I could add things that were more important to me

Re: 2K cake spinoff
To me the cake is the last thing people will remember about the food. So I want them to think it tastes good. Plus I figure we are paying for it so it should be how I want it! Pretty and yummy! :) But you are right that it really isn't the most important thing.

in an earlier cake thread, a lot of brides commented that they don't think it's worth it to pay extra $$ for a cake (beyond what's provided at the hall), since they don't consider it a priority...
I was in the minority. Heck ya, I want a yummy and pretty cake! We're getting a fondant cake from our favorite bakery.... chocolate cake with choco mousse and mocha buttercream filling.
Unless my selections were AWFUL, I'd not pay extra for the wedding cake. Luckily, my hall has a phenomenal baker. The cakes are gorgeous AND delicious!

To be honest I've never noticed the cake at a wedding and don't remember even the cake cutting. I do want it to be pretty but I'd much rather have it be tasty!

For me the cake is a big deal. I am obsessed with cakes, I have to have an original cake. When I go to wedddings the first thing I look for is the cake.
ETA: in my house we always have cake, we are cake obsessed. My mom is always baking a cake, evey single holiday to occasion to my birds bday, lol, we have cake, I even want to open up a bakery of my own to make wedding cakes, I love it!!!!

Re: 2K cake spinoff
i didn't care about the cake.. i didn't really even like the look of the one we got, DH picked out the more traditional kind with the columns that I wasn't crazy about but I decided it was one of those things not worth arguing about. It came free with the hall, I never would have paid extra for a cake. ETA: no one even remembers our cake, we had the dessert trays on the table and people raved about that, IDK if anyone even ate the cake, LOL.

Cakeman Rave is awesome. It's down the street from me and there is almost always a line.
Sweet Melissa's makes some great mini desserts too. I love to sit there with a latte and mini pastry
The cake was not a big deal to us either. DH is not into desserts at all. We wanted it to taste great (it did) and look nice (it did). But we also added a chocolate fountain for those that are not into cake.

I agree. As long as our cake is at least somewhat pretty & it tastes good, I'm happy. We're getting a cake provided by the hall. We get to choose the flavors & the colors. That's good enough for me.

Re: 2K cake spinoff
nope u'r not alone.. i could give a rat a** bout my cake.. i'mma pick one out, it's gonna sit on a table for 5 hours and then i'mma think ewww... i don't want to eat a cake thats been sitting out on a table all that time. people walking by and breathing all over it.. nope.. bring me some of that peanut rolled ice cream u got in the back..
Now that you put it that way, I agree ewww. I heard a lot of people got sick at one catering hall because of this very reason.
Cake was never a big deal to me either though. I told FH I want peanut butter something or other though!!!!Yummmmm.
