Original post by OctoberPrincess2006

Hello, I just saw a Leonard's of Greatneck Thread but it has a lot of older posts on it (not that I mind, I love to read any post on Leonard's ) I know someone else had a more recent post with up to date posted wedding dates but I can't seem to find it, so.... I decided to start a new one. I will start it off

Has anyone had issues with vendor liability insurance with Leonard's.? Only recently did I realize that this was required of all vendors. I didn't even know what it was. Most of my vendors have it but I'm having an issue with my photographer-kind of scary. I booked him a while ago and really like his style. He works for himself and has a pretty extensive portfolio. He mostly does photojournalism but also does weddings. But he does not have insurance. (none of the question guides including theknot, weddingchannel, etc. suggested asking this question) I don't know what to do. He is not too keen on getting it because he has never had to use it and has never heard of it. Neither have I but now that I know about it, I don't think its a bad idea. I spoke with my BM who said that all vendors needed it . I didn't push the issue further. He was very quick about the whole thing. Any suggestions. Feel free to FM me. Thanks.

PS- In regards to the issue with changing rooms and nasty BM's - Is this a common experience? Have you guys felt the same way about your BM experiences?

i have antonio as my BM and he has been nothing but really nice. We had to switch for a smaller room, and he didn't rush us or anything. No problems so far, my FH is suppose to hear from him today about the tasting.

We worked with Maurizio and he was really nice and thorough. I ended up wanting to switch rooms last minute and Maurizio got another guy to walk us around to see what else was available, although I did not get see the provincial room

I called Leonard's a while ago to find out if insurance was necessary for photographs and they said yes. I wouldn't want to risk them not letting my photographer take pictures at the reception. If I were you I would call again just to clarify that lyou need liability insurance for photogrpahers if you're not having the ceremony there. I wasn't very specific with them and maybe you just need it for the ceremony and not the reception as well. I doubt this is the case but it doesn't hurt to ask. If its necessary and your photographer doesn't want to get insurance then I would choose another photographer. Photographs are very important and you wouldn't want to risk not having them on your wedding!

I really liked Antonio when I met with him but I switched to Mauricio because FH wasn't too keen on Leonard's. I figured Mauricio could talk to him and convince him that Leonard's is a great hall. They are both the same to me.

Ok so I went to Leonards for my walk through and what was pulled out of the draw-- Long and behold it was the cake book. Anyways, the cake wasnt a big concern for me because I am having the VH. But I was not impressed wit what they offered, free or otherwise. Even FH was like these are all ugly. We ended up picking the one of the free ones or shall I say included in the package. Here a tip: I also looked at the books that they have in the office with past brides and you can see the cakes in there. Not too impressive either.

Ian was nice and walks through the whole party from beginning to end. I got dizzy when he was talking about the seating chart and what to do--LOL. We also saw our room and it was beautiful, its the Starlight -LOL just kidding Janie- the continental .

Janie - I know you are going soon, can you do me a favor and find out if they supply cake cutting set. I forgot to ask

The free one is butter cream.. I just wasnt crazy about the designs on it. I also told hom that I didnt want the columns, or the swan decorations on it. I told him just to stack the circles and use the simpl design. They charged extra for square stacked. So round it was for me.

Thanks so much. I happen to really like buttercream but if it is the cake that was on the sopranos i am not a big fan and I don't like those swam things.

Thanks for reporting back with cake information. How many free cake styles do they offer? It really ***** about the square cakes costing more. I had my heart set on a square cake. I looked through some of their sample wedding books by proline and I saw horrible pictures of the cake. Thats what first alerted me to their cake problem. In every picture no matter what style cake and no matter which bride it was, the cake's icing was cracked. I don't know why it bothered me so much but it really ruined the cake pictures for me. I think i'm just going to bring my own cake.

They only give you a choice of 2 for the freebies. I think for the free ones since they are butter cream, it wont look as cracked since its not smooth icing. Im not into cakes.. so it didnt matter to me if it was butter cream, fondant or whatever. Im an Ice Cream cake person - yummy.

ETA: If its in your budget and this is going to make you crazy I would pay the extra for an upgrade or go outside.

I may have posted about this but I am really into cakes and when I saw the ones in their book I almost died they were awful so I had a cake in mind and showed it to them and it came out gorgeous I just had them do a 4 layer round cake and had them frost it so that it was very smooth like fondant and then added flowers from the florist and it looked great I will have to post a pic later. I have to say the only neg thing about them are the cakes considering how amazing their affairs are one would think the cakes would be better.

Thanks. What a pain in the arse for this cake!!!!

I don't know why there cakes are so horrible. So many catering halls have nice cakes. I think the fox hollow, chateau briand, etc... give you a choice of like 7 or 8 cakes.
