3 months later, we got a thank you!

Original post by CLMon7906

so just yesterday i was thinking that we attended this wedding in march...and still no thank you...how could a LIW bride do such a thing??? well, finally it came yesterday...but still...3 months?? ladies, that's just too long. oh, and my name was left off the envelope AGAIN. unbelievable. we live together, we're getting married in 2 weeks and i wrote the check out!!!!! sorry...but that just bugs me.

edited for those complaining:

the thank you was NOT a photo nor did it include one. so, for a non-photo thank you, 3 months is a bit long. she doesn't have that much going on in her life and her job is as boring as mine.

Re: 3 months later, we got a thank you!

As a former bride, I'll post my experience.

I got married on May 30. I had a 2 week honeymoon. All thank you cards were mailed on September 17. They were 3 1/2 x 5 cards with the full card handwritten- and most were fully hand written on the back as well as the front of the card. Each inclused a wallet sized photo.

And, I feel BAD that they were LATE. As per etiquette, regardless of the photo or the amount of writing I did, they were LATE.

No one said anything to me about it because they were the fastest out of my entire and DH's entire families.

The OP is correct- her TY was late. IMO, if the bride and groom were able to hurry out and deposit the checks and cash into their bank account, they should have hurried up and written out the thank you cards. It's funny how everyone has time to get gifts, but when it's time to send a thank you 'I have important things to do'

If we need to be married to answer about thank you notes, then I guess I qualify. This is my second wedding!

I THINK THAT COUNTS ... ALSO I BELIEVE YOU JUST GET LAZY AFTER GETTING MARRIED SO YOU DONT WANT TO BE BOTHERED & I KNOW THIS FOR A FACT I'VE HAD AT LEAST 15 BRIDES TELL ME THIS .....

okay...

ets: I just saw your other reply on this thread and see that you aren't concerned with writing the thank you cards for the gifts that people gave you. Well, then that's your perogative. But, don't be suprised if you offend some of your gift givers by waiting a year to say thank you.

Three weeks to deposit checks is considered 'hurrying' when compared to 1 year to say thank you.

SOOO True I agree You should send it out ASAP to show that you are thankful ... Im not married yet but whenever someone gave me a card for our engagement I sent a Thank you the Very NEXT DAY!!!! The point is.. I think its Disrespectful not to send them out in a timely manor....

Can someone please tell who the hec is this O Holy Ettiquette god that deciphers what a person does. How many times I hear on these boards Ettiquette says do XYZ, meanwhile its statements that contradict each other.

DO what works for you and be respectful of others, to me thats what works. Plus any poster has the right to be annoyed at somethign even if others dont agree. Why let it offend you and bash each other over Thank you's.. seriously.

Fact is 3, 6, a year - there is always going to be someone who will complain or add their
Dont try to please everyone because you will just be getting nowhere

What difference does it make as long as they send out a formal thank you. . .now not getting a thank you card at all, that is something to beef about.

here's another interesting one: i have a girlfriend at work who got married in january, told me herself that she got the proofs back in TWO WEEKS lol and she still has not even written ONE THANK YOU CARD!!!!!! she got married on january 6th... lol yikes-- that's getting to the point where it has been a while. hmmmmm

regardless if she got her proofs back 2 weeks later or 2 months later, you don't know what else is going on in her life. TY's do take a while to get out. You'll see yourself when you get married next year. I thought, 3 months would be no problem... boy was I wrong! Especially since I made sure to write something meaningful and sincere in each and every one of my 200+ TY cards, while working full time, taking care of every day issues that come up in the house, family obligations...etc....

well perhaps i should have made myself more clear originally-- i only mentioned that example b/c my co-worker and i talk A LOT and she specifically said, she got her proofs back in two weeks, immediately she had a pic chosen for the TY, and then she stated that she just didn't feel like writing them out... she then went on to say she was hoping if she waited enough time that her DH would get fed up and do it for her-- so i probably should have really elaborated on that. believe me, i totally understand having a crazy life and a lot of things going on-- but admitedly, that is not the case with this particular person.
totally understand why you saw that though from what i originally wrote. i should have been more clear live and learn!

Exactly,Ettiquette ,Smettique who cares! Get them out when you can.Whether your married once, twice or haven't yet. Why be bothered about it. You don't have time to get out TY's b/c everyones busy w/ married life, but can make a thousand post in two weeks. You know you can please your elders b/c you 'will' have them out before three months but you haven't been married yet to experience how hectic it can be. Who cares, move on b/c guess what it's 2006 and th most part of Ettiquette has, and the person who started it is probably gone. And that's JMO in which everyone on these boards are intitled to

I love it this.. this will be me using married life as an excuse for not doing TY but yet I will post on here religiously.

That's way too long! Some people think they have all of the time in the world.

I actually just started to feel guilty about not sending out my thank you's. This whole process of getting a thank you card through Duet is taking ridiculously long, so I made the executive decision to use some personalized stationary I got from MIL and I started sending them out on Monday. I figure people want the thank you sooner rather than later (I don't think they really care whether there is a photo or not, although it is a nice touch). I think time is of the essence when it comes to thank you's.

just to add my 2 cents...the one year rule to send out a ty is rude and thoughtless. you should do it as soon as you can. not to mention, why would you ever want that task hanging over your head?!

Well I went to a wedding in October 2005 and another one in November 2005 and we never recieved a Thank You for either one. I think it is rude and shows no class. Quick to invite us and then no thank you. I was invited to a baby shower for one and declined because of that. For the November Bride, she was pregnant and home the whole time doing not a thing so no excuse in my mind

I went to one in November of 2003 and never recieved one either. My philosophy is better late than never. I'm so crazy that I'll probably have my thank yous done as soon as we get back from the honeymoon, but I just like to get stuff done quickly.

Wow I never realized how many ppl look forward to receiving Thank You cards. I know its rude to not acknowledge someone for celebrating with u. But honestly as a guest, after I leave a wedding, I talk about how much fun I had and etc.. But a few days later, Im not even thinking about a Thank You Card. Maybe im absent minded or forgetful but its always a pleasant surpise when I get one in the mail. But if I never got one, I probably wouldnt notice. Call me Loca...

My guest aren't that uptight, so I'm pretty sure they will not be 'offended', hey to each his own.
