3 reception halls-looking for opinions

Can anyone offer any help/thoughts on any of the following places: The Milleridge Cottage, Sans Souci in Sea Cliff or George Washington Manor. We are going to view these places next week. Thanks.

I think the Marriot in Uniondale is your best bet. It is actually a beautiful hotel. I had friends from out of state stay there last year and the rooms (regular room) was gorgeous. The Garden City Hotel is beautiful but they charge some outrageous price that to me wasnt even worth it. We havent decided where we are going to stay. We are buying a house so we might save the $$ and go back to our house (being that I wont be living there before the wedding). Check out the Marriot. Good Luck!!

i am getting married at the chateau briand in feb 2001. does anyone suggest any hotels in that area for me to go to after the wedding? do you think the Marriott has the best price? or is there a really nice other hotel around there that doesn't charge an arm and a leg.

Okay, Sans Souci has a great view and great food, but a little small. If you have over 160 guests it may be tight! But food is excellent, Milleredge and George Washington Manor are owned by the same people so the mediocre food is so, so but larger rooms. And a view of the Jereicho water tower turned me off the Milleride as did working there when I was 15! Did you check out Swan Club or Crescent beach Club, both fairly priced and great rooms!

Jessica, Would you or any other bride or groom like to see a poll we informally took describing 12 areas of catering halls on a 1 to 10 scale that cover things like ambiance, grounds, food, etc.? The halls are the 8 most common that we have gone to in the last 25 years; Fox Hollow, Russo's, Jericho Terrace, etc.

What was the poll taken for? It sounds like it may help some, I am getting married in 15 days, so it won't help me too much now! But it would be great for my friends! Thanks.

hi, i've only been checking this group for about a week, so forgive me if this is a completely inappropriate and intrusive question. its just that it seems the price of wedding related things on long island are completely different from the rest of the country!!! i would like to know how much you are paying your photographer and what services he/she is providing (how much time they will spend, engagement photos, how many proofs, albums included, etc etc). i realize this may be a private subject (money is always hard to talk about), but i found a photographer i love and i want to see how competetive her prices are. if this is inappropriate, i apologize again and please, someone, tell me to shut up!! :) take care everyone and happy planning!!!!

I would definitely be interested in checking it out. Sounds interesting.

Just wondering how you can comment on a place that you worked at when you were 15-- regardless of how it was when you were there how can you comment on that now--assumming you are not 16-- I have heard nothing but good things about the food at the cottage--def not what I would call mediocre-- just wondering why you thought that Laura

All of our vendors were prompt, professional, & very responsive to any and all requests we made throughout the day - The Milleridge Carriage House, Cassarino Studios, Designer Limos, Greenpoint Florist, Fine Time Entertainment.

And the quartet was also a big hit!

Well the management has not changed nor has the food service. I went to look there since I worked there for 5 years, I wanted to see how much they were charging and when I went in, they laughed and said you know what goes on here, why would you want to ruin your day. I also wanted a place where the Jericho water tower would not be my view. Does that answer your question? Hey she asked for opinions I am entitled to mine as are you right? P.S. I went to 3 weddings there last summer and guess what the food has not changed at least not for $140-per plate. Sorry:)

Hi. I live in Massapequa. I went to Broadway favors for bridal shower favors for a friends shower. They have a huge selection but they werent very friendly. Maybe I caught them on a bad day. They do have a wide variety of favors so it might be worth the ride.

Has anyone gone to Broadway Favors in Massapequa??? Big selection? Is it worth a trip? Any luck?

I dont know if I want to entrust this special day to people who think so little of their place of employment that they laugh and snicker at what goes on there....Im looking there tonight. I guess Ill go with my gut feeling...Im certainly not in the market to pay 140/pp...this wedding stuff is stressful

This is the place that I need directions to. Sorry ! and thanks!

Your opinion is appreciated of course. Thanks Jessica

I think I will use lollipops too- to bribe the kids to stick around. Now, what to do for the adults? I **KNOW**that they will want to go the the CH. too bad, they will wait the 15 min to take pics with us then go eat. ( Sorry- I know that this sounds selfish- but I really mean it tongue in cheek!!) we will have our own attendant providing us with drinks adn snacks. maybe this will also help to lure the few guests to stick around for pics.

3 reception halls-looking for opinions

your opinions are all noteworthy, however i am a little concerned about what you may seem to be paying for each person. the going price for a top affair depending on the month is $55.00 to $95.00 at the high point. hardly anyone is above that price esp with the competition around....carltun on park, oheka castle and crescent beach club (summer only)may be $125 and up...but not the typical halls mentioned. especially not milleridge, geo wash mr, west mr, fox, chateau, crest holl, woodbury c.c., jericho terr, etc...all of their clientel pays below $95...averaging 65-80 mostly.....hope this helps you out. good luck....you must shop, and tell them what you DEMAND to pay...alsothe closer to your date the cheaper the price...a caterer will NOT let their room stay empty so they would rather give it away than lose money by leaving it empty...so shop and hold your position on price, but always tell the caterer what you want to pay, and low ball it! just like a car....

I know how horrible you must feel, I too have had problems with the Commack Wedding Center in the past (with bridesmaid dresses). If you had felt so strongly at the time that the dress was too short, you should have refused to pay for it. I would have stood there and screamed until I got my way. They have one seamstress who is absolutely terrible. If you leave with the dress and sign the receipt, then legally the wedding center is not responsible. However by making what happened known to the Better Business Bureau, the news or everyone you can think of, if he has any conscience, he will do the right thing. Take the advice that everyone had left and go to another seamstress. Don't let something so minor as a hem ruin your special day. It is not worth it.

So what do you do? I mean how do you tell them what you want to pay if you really want the place?

Thanks

Other than that, I have heard better things about Bridal Reflections in Massapequa than the one in Carle Place. I haven't heard anything about the other store.

Bob-

Have you checked pricing lately?? My cousin just paid $125 at The Milleridge and I have a friend who is paying $110 at the Fox Hollow. In fact all of those places you listed can and have gone for over $100pp. You can demand and get some money off but prices are prices. They go up every year.

I would have to agree with Lenore, although I guess it depends what time of the year and what day the wedding is-but when I went looking around a year ago the average was around 95 pp without any extras.

I agree! I've been in catering for years and I have to say that Scarsellas is on the money for service, quality and Tee is a doll.

Bob- When was the last time you booked one of these places? I think your prices are a bit ancient. I haven't founf anything decent for less than $100 per person. And of course add tax and grat to that and you are at $130 per person.

If I am wrong, please tell me where I can book my wedding for $55 per person.

I have to agree with Bob on a smidge of this. The prices today are ridiculous! I moved my wedding to a Friday from Saturday and saved $40.00 a person in a well established catering hall with excellent reviews and food. Why wouldn't you shop around a little. I'm paying $51.00 per person and my girl friends wedding was at the same place. The guests couldn't believe they had to eat again after cocktail. They thought alllllll that food was the reception You have to bargain for the price. $125.00 per person is abusrd - just my opinion. You can have JUST AS GOOD A TIME IF YOUR FOOD IS GOOD QUALITY AND YOUR MUSIC IS WONDERFUL. Trust me, I've shopped for 15 months on prices and places. The more west you go the higher the price. Yes, I'm in a "COTTAGE ATMOSPHERE" but that's what long island is!!! It's the country. If you want a Manhattan big show wedding hall, then you will pay for it. They count on that. To me, it's the marriage/sacrament that matters, not how beautiful your room is or how much you spent. Name one person that has tons of money and is happy.

If I am wrong, please tell me where I can book my wedding for $55 per person.

I really was not trying to start anything-I just made a comment based on my own experiences. Maybe Suffolk county is cheaper. I wouldn't know because I only looked in Nassau-eastern Long Island would be way too far for my family-we are from Queens and we wanted to keep it within afairly reasonable distance of the Church.

If you are able to get it cheaper, the more power to you-everything about weddings seems to be so expensive.

How about $65? I am booked at Chateau La Mer on Friday, August 31, 2001. I was very impressed with the hall, and it is right on the water. All food, etc is included in the price.

I don't know what you consider "decent" but you sound very snobbish by saying a place isn't decent if it isn't overpriced! Do a little research and you can find many catering facilities on Long Island for around $50.00-$60.00. Verdi's of Westbury (formerly GiGi's), Imperial Manor, The Riviera, Southwind Caterers, Chateau LeMer, Manor East, Thatched Cottage, Villa Victor, etc. I'm sure none of these places you'd find suitable with your Park Avenue taste, but for those of us less fortunate, give them a try.

MY WEDDING IS ON JULY 4TH OF THIS YEAR I'M HAVING HY GOLDBURG FROM PACE FOR THE PICS. ANY INPUT FROM OTHER BRIDES TO BE'S?

Tee is so great. Isn't her shop WONDERFUL!!! How are you decorating? She has GREAT ideas!!! It will look so beautiful around Christmas. What a great time of the year.
