4 months to go...and now I have to move!!!!

My landlord informed FH and I yesterday that he is selling the house.

He is a contractor and has built a new 2 family house (for income) and has offered us to rent out one of the apartments in the new house. We currently live in Forest Hills and the new place in in Briarwood (about 10 minutes away) It's $200 more a month...which stinks because money is already tight.

On the plus side: its a new house so we'll be the first to live in it. All new appliances too. We are going from a 2 bdrm to a 3 bdrom and 1.5 baths...so that's a plus too.

Its just a bomb to drop on us with 4 months to the wedding. He says we can expect to move in 2 months time.....so I assume mid-July. I think we need to take this apartment b/c we can't afford to start apartment hunting and paying realtor fees and such. We just can't afford the added stress...ya know? FH thinks maybe we should look on our own...but I think we should just take this to not make waves right now with so much else going on. If we are unhappy, we can search later (we are not under lease).

What do you guys think?

I think you should take it...its a great opportunity to bump up a bedroom in case of any ! Good luck!

I would just go into that apt, it sounds nice and it'll be great being the 1st ones to live there and use all new appliances! Don't add to your stresses, like you said if you're unhappy then you can go hunting after the wedding.

I couldn't agree with this more. If you move into an older apartment, you may have to pay $$ to fix it up, so the extra $200 may be worth it.. plus an extra bedroom? You cant beat that!

Does anyone know Briarwood? I've only been there once (yesterday) ...trying to get a feel for the area. My apartment will be about 5 blocks from Archbishop Molly HS.

What on earth does he think you would be missing out on?? Apartments are VERY hard to find, especially if you don't have every weekend non-stop to devote to looking, and all the spare cash for security deposits etc. Where else are you going to find a brand new place with all new appliances?

It is a small bummer to have to move, but the new place sounds pretty nice.

If you decide you want to just look around without having to worry about paying realter's fees, you can always check craigslist.com

That is the site I used to find the house me and FH are living in. You can search for no broker's fee apartments and contact the owners yourself. I liked using the site. Something to consider! Good luck whatever you decide!
