4 People = $30 GIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG my coworker ( who I consider my work mom) just told me that at her son's wedding, he received a card with 4 signatures and the card contained a whopping .....drum roll...... $30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they were married at Ariana Waterfalls and paid $86 per person .....can you IMAGINE?!

$7.50 each. I am far from materialistic, and any gift I receive will be appreciated ...BUT, I really would reevaluate my realtionship with someone who would have the audacity to give me 7.50!!!!!!!!

That happened to FBIL when he got married! Only a family member did that to him... which means... it might happen to us also! I don't remember which family memeber (it was one I never met and doens't talk to FH family too often)... but it was from an ENTIRE family! Not just 1 person or 1 couple!

I think it's a tad mean. I mean $30 for 4 people???!?!! At that point.. just buy a gift that looks more expensive than it is... then you would never know it was only $30! You know?

That is some serious stuff!!! I will greatful but $30...That is kind of an insult!! PPL are just ditzy and don't think about occasions like a Wedding..

I know! ....30 bucks could have gotten them a set of everyday glasses or a vase or something from Target or Walmart.

IMO if you are not going to at least cover the cost of your plate, then don't give a monetary gift!

That's so rude. So rude!!! Maybe they had never been to a wedding before, or maybe they were from out of state, or maybe even they couldn't afford more - but I think I'd rather have nothing, or a homemade something, than $30 from a family of four. Might be just me ...

Thinking about my FILs thought that a wedding nowadays think that a wedding should cost $8500 like theirs did in 1982. . .

I can see FMIL's mother doing this, not because she doesn't love us, but because she may have no concept of how much a wedding costs.

If it's an older relative (I'm talking in their 70s/80s), I could understand. But anyone under that threshhold should have the decency and the sense to give more than $30 friggin dollars!!!!!

same thing happened to my sis with a few people. her wedding was abt 150-160 a head. but, she took it in stride and never told anyone but me. in the end, she still had a beautiful party we all enjoyed and the generous people will surprise you as well. it goes both ways.

Okay, I understand that poeple dont have money and thats fine ... but im sorry I would NEVER leave 30 for 4people!!! that is just plain tacky and insulting... Honestly I would rather leave nothing than leave that because you can always send a card and check or even a gift later

Ok I can understand an older person, but not from a family of 4. I know it is the thought that counts but that is just awkward for everyone in my opinion.

FH has an uncle (actually great uncle I think) that is coming and we already know he is giving us $10! For any holiday or event he gives $5 a peice no matter what, even at weddings lol. He is old so I think its really cute.

that's totally true. we found that w/ the e-party. some gifts were downright embarrassing to accept. others were comical..or nonexistent, but it all came out in the wash. we had a great time.

I dunno i mean yes it does s*ck that they only got $30 from a family of 4, but the economy really does s*ck right now so I would cut them a little slack. I am already expecting smaller envelopes at my wedding bc of this economy. At least they gave something.

If the person is really old , or not from around her it is a little more ok. If it is someone from around here who should know bettter and just couldnt afford it ,they should have have just gotten a nice gift and not even bothered with the check.

WOW ....I am sure the venue spoke for itself.....that is insane

and FTR the wedding in question was in 2003! there was no excuse. With the econmy the way it is, and with many of our guests coming from OOT I have began to brace myself. Again, all gifts will be appreciated but I think there is a certain decorum that needs to be maintained as it relates to wedding gift giving.

That's exactly what I've heard...that people will shock you in both aspects.

All you can do is make a mental note and move on.. that and be extremely thankful for those who were very generous.
