OMG my coworker ( who I consider my work mom) just told me that at her son's wedding, he received a card with 4 signatures and the card contained a whopping .....drum roll...... $30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they were married at Ariana Waterfalls and paid $86 per person .....can you IMAGINE?!
$7.50 each. I am far from materialistic, and any gift I receive will be appreciated ...BUT, I really would reevaluate my realtionship with someone who would have the audacity to give me 7.50!!!!!!!!

Re: 4 People = $30 GIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And when I said someone wanted to give me ornaments and was upset, the mob came after me...yeah, I'm like a freakin elephant, I remember.
So lest we go down that road again, all I will say is that I would be very upset if that happened, but if it was someone elderly, then I would look past it. I'm going to be having family units of like 6 coming, so while I'm not expecting it to be $30, I'm certainly expecting that it won't be 6 plates, and nothing you can do about that besides smile and hope for the best.

Re: 4 People = $30 GIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have family at both ends of the spectrum, som with no money and some with lots. at our engagement party, we received from 2 families (11 people) 2 cookbooks at 25 and 30 dollars and candlesticks tht were 30 as well. We know they dont have much money, we thanked them happily. Another fam friend gave us 500 (1 person) and his uncle from out of state gave us 600 (3 people), So it comes from all ends.....I know i will not be thrilled if i get something that low as a gift, but to be honest if it was someone i know is struggling financially i understand completely. If they are doing well, id def be surprised and a bit annoyed.

Im going in with my eyes wide shut. I'm not materalistic and all but some people are just tight when it comes on to money ( excluding the elderly and those who are really strapped for cash. I've been telling my Fiance from the other day to go in not expecting anything in return But 3$0 from 4 persons in this day and Age, MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 4 People = $30 GIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, so I had ppl come to our e-party, and give 50 from 5 people, no mention of names or relationships due to possible lurkers, but $10 a person, we paid more than 5 times that and you have the audacity to give that....I mean some people that aren't from around here, not to say it's acceptable, but you kinda have to understand that not everyone is like us, that do the right thing as far as giftgiving goes, you have to take it where it comes from and although I agree in that you appreciate every gift you get, it's a little disheartening and extremely rude to the host as we've put blood, sweat and tears into the planning of this event and it's worth no more than a few bucks to someone...ugh, that really p!$$e$ me off!!! That bothered me a lot more than I thought!!!

Re: 4 People = $30 GIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
guarentee u that the 4 ppl that put in 30$ spent more than that on their dresses/siuts for the day..
i love how ppl say they are broke, yet spend a ton of money on an outfit for the occasion. people are just CHEAP.

Re: 4 People = $30 GIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe that. Im afraid of that happening, too. My mom told me a story about that happening to her when she got married 25 years ago. I know it was a while ago, but it can still happen. Usually you give what you can afford, but thats just rude.

Re: 4 People = $30 GIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Realistically the shouldn't have even bothered. That such an insult that I would prefer not to even receive a gift.
That reminds me of a story my grandpa told me. That a friend of his daughter/son got married and party of four gave them a gift card to Macy's. The amount wasn't on it so the went to check how much it was worth. When they went the card had a balance of $10. The customer service person told them that the original balance was $100.00 and that sheets, pillow, etc had been purchased. So they gave a used gift card as a present.

Re: 4 People = $30 GIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I completely understand if people are struggling and are having money problems. However, if this is their situation, they shouldn't go to the party. I don't understand why someone would go to a party if they are not able to give a decent gift.

Re: 4 People = $30 GIFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ladies,,, let me tell you, this thread has come up SO many times on this site.. It repeats it self every year, multiple times. You will be very surprised and pleased by some people... EX- someone who you know who DOES NOT have the money, will give you a lot.. or some one who has money will not give you anything!
Remember that no one HAS to give you a gift. Your reception is the celebration of your marriage and is a event HOSTED by you, your FH and your families to celebrate the event of MARRIAGE. IF you are going into getting married as a money making event, then you will not be happy with your outcome. You shouldn't have ANY expectations about what you will receive.
I had a friend that a BM never gave her a wedding card or gift.. she told the bride, that she would give it to her after the wedding (she forgot it),, then next time she saw the bride, the bride never mentioned it, but the BM said 'Ohhh I still have to give you your wedding card/gift'... This happend 3 more times.. and to this day, she has never got a gift from her BM...
It does hurt when you open envelopes and see NOTHING or something that is really 'low' but there is a reason that your receiving that gift. To the gift giver it maybe acceptable, but not to you. Not everyone will 'cover their plate', or cover some of the cost of having them there.
Remember that YOU picked the location, and it is not your guest fault / problem to cover that cost.
They do not have to even give a gift. Your invite doesn't have a price tag on it... and it they are a GUEST of yours, that you are HOSTING to celebrate your wedding, Weddings are not a fundraiser.
Good Luck, and don't worry about it. You can't change it. Or tell them that they are wrong and they should have given your more. You and your then DH will enjoy your day regardless.
