Hi ladies, i need some help. I had originally set a date in october of 2011. But because fh and i are trying to save for a house, i was thinking of changing my date. What do you think of having a 4th of July wedding in 2011??? My only concern is that 4th of july lands on a Monday. I know that the majority of my family and friends do not work on the 4th of July. Is it almost like having a 'sunday' wedding since most are off that day?
TIA.... Im about to have a nervous break down since i want my house and wedding!!!

That is usually the case. The only this is I would let people know way in advance so they don;t make vacation plans for that weekend.

Why not have it on July 3rd, which is a Sunday? That is when I am having mine Then everyone has off the next day. Having it on the actual holiday could be fun, but do you have guests coming from out of town? It might be hard for them because they will have to travel the day after, therefore, causing them to take off of work.

Re: 4th of July Wedding
Isn't it more expensive to get married in July rather than October? I think its better if you have a fri wedding or a sunday since alot of people may not be able to make it bc they are away on the 4th. I love 4th of July weddings!!!

Honestly, not to start trouble but it might be a PITA for some guests. They might want to go away for that weekend and would feel like they're obligated to attend your wedding. I know we always go to my friend's party every year and I had a fourth of July wedding to go to last year and I was kind of disappointed to miss the regular party.
Edited to add that I had my wedding on Halloween though - so I guess the same could be said for me ruining people's Halloween fun!

ITA - what about the Sunday 7/3? FH and I are getting married this Memorial Day weekend on the Sunday (5/30) so people will have time to travel/recuperate after the wedding

Re: 4th of July Wedding
I am a 4th of July 2010 bride and let me tell you, it is not that easy picking vendors since it is a holiday so keep that in mind. I mean all big vendors are ok but they are kind of cocky and make you feel like you owe them.
I am having a crisis right now in finding someone to do hair and make up for that day. I mean if you have everything and you know what you want it is great and hopefully there will be lots of fireworks!!!
But yes, since it is on a Monday next year it will be considered like a Sunday wedding unless a lot of people want to take off that Tuesday.
Good luck!!

Re: 4th of July Wedding
if you do it on a thursday you are gong to pay 'Saturday Prices' even though its a Sunday since it is a holiday weekend.
If you do it on the 4th, its fine, you will get charged Sunday prices - but i would definately send out STD's way in advance so people know when the wedding is!

Thank you ladies for you assistance. I spoke with my BM and he claimed that peak season for my RH is April to November. He is working on some numbers for me. Hopefully I get the Sunday instead at a better price.

Re: 4th of July Wedding
I personally wouldn't. To be honest, I don't know that I would go to a 4th of July wedding unless it was a close friend or a family member - people have other things that they want to do or traditionally do on the 4th. I agree with some of the other ladies - can you do the 3rd instead?

ITA agree...your guests definitely need ample notice if your wedding will be on a holiday weekend.

My wedding is on a thursday and I'm not paying Saturday prices. I think you should do what you want and the people you are close to will come.

Re: 4th of July Wedding
Hi! I am getting married on Monday next 4th of July and I have had no problems with vendors or guests. I haven't had any vendor charge me more or give me a hard time about booking. In addition, I haven't had any negative reactions from guests. However, I am having a 'twilight ceremony,' so guests will not have to get there early and can still drive home that night. The only small problem is the high hotel prices. I would say just do what works for you! If people dont want to come then who cares if theyre there anyway ;)

Re: 4th of July Wedding
We had our wedding on July 3rd and had no complaints. I hate the excuse that it's a PITA and that people wouldn't go. My feeling is if the people love you (which I am sure they do!) they can **** it up and come to a wedding instead of having a BBQ. Ultimately, you will have people come/not come whenever you do it. If you want it on the weekend of the 4th go for it. We had the best time at our July 3 wedding and our guests loved it too. It's also a great weekend to have your anniversary!

Re: 4th of July Wedding
Since you said you were originally getting married in October, have you tried the Sunday before Columbus day? Its 10/9/11. We originally wanted to do a Saturday night wedding in October, but when the RH offered us the Sunday night before Columbus day at a much better price, we couldn't pass it up. Almost everyone has off on Columbus day so we figured it would be just like a Saturday night. Either way, the people you really want there will be there no matter what day of the week you have your wedding!
